Being prepared with an experienced team is going to be crucial to delivering the next generation’s education facilities as quickly as possible.
Our professionals are specialists in delivering school projects through the planning system. We are here to provide support and ensure that our clients are at the forefront of the Government’s construction framework and equipped to mobilise a design team that supports them through the early stages of development.
In the 2020 Summer Budget, the Government promised £1bn for 50 major school re-building projects in England. While the full details are yet to be announced, the Government has indicated that it is serious in pushing this initiative forward. The funding is to be distributed nationally over a 10-year period and the investment will be prioritised based on the condition of the buildings.

Falmer Academy
We worked with Brighton and Hove City Council to secure planning permission for the development of an exemplar Academy scheme with the highest architectural merit and environmental credentials.
The site, formally occupied by Falmer High School and now known as Brighton Aldridge Community Academy, has been transformed from a 1960s building to a bespoke, stylish construction that supports the school’s specialisms; sport and entrepreneurship.
The development featured a range of sustainable measures to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating, including the incorporation of green roofs and rainwater harvesting. Passive design measures were incorporated to reduce solar gain and allow natural ventilation.
Considerable emphasis was placed on the quality of the architecture and the open spaces around the buildings. The historic links to Madam Osterburg, the pioneer of Physical Education for women, was acknowledged through the refurbishment of the original building which proudly overlooks the cricket ground.
We worked with the North West Kent College to secure planning permission for the redevelopment of the existing college campus, which was located in the Green Belt.
North West Kent Academy
On behalf of Homes England, we provided planning advice in relation to an urban extension to the west of Ifield of between 3,250 – 10,000 dwellings. As part of the development, discussions took place with West Sussex County Council as the local education authority, Crawley Borough Council and Horsham District Council regarding the education strategy to deliver five 2FE primary schools and two 6FE secondary schools.
Ifield
On behalf of Homes England, we provided planning advice in relation to proposals for 3,000+ dwellings at Chalgrove Airfield, which included provision of a secondary school and two 2FE primary schools, all of which
were onsite. The project required detailed discussions with Oxfordshire County Council as the local education authority, South Oxfordshire District Council, existing schools in the catchment and the Acer School Trust.
Chalgrove
We acted on behalf of the Department for Education in relation to the development of a new 6FE secondary school in Rainham, Medway that obtained planning permission in February 2020 and is now under construction. The school is expected to open later this year.
