Net Zero &
Decarbonisation
Benefit summary
Recent energy spikes have driven
the assessment of onsite generation
and energy efficiency measures
Often large increases in price occur when energy contracts are up for renewal
Increasing need to take control of energy strategy
Solar PV systems have
25+ year lifetime
PPAs often 10-20 year length
Companies have range of net zero and sustainability targets to be met
MEES regulation also driving uptake
Renewables provide decarbonised energy
Operational energy savings or below market price for energy
Greater certainty around energy costs
Decarbonised, onsite
energy supply

Operational savings for
owner occupier
Owner occupier self funds capex and achieves operational energy saving
Site owner-funded and
tenant payments
Site owner funds project capex and payback achieved through tenant below market energy payments
Third party funded
Third-party funds project capex and tenant or owner occupier pays below market energy payment
Operational savings
for tenant
Tenant funds and installs during lease, achieves operational energy saving

RESET
Obtain critical project data to identify client energy, building & operating profles.
Analyse data to qualify a project against land or roof space, consumption and baseload.
With qualification, profiling and suitable technologies identified, the information is assembled into a fundable project design.
A project proposal is presented to the client for consultation.
Confirm approach to take forward.
Team can manage delivery of project with contractor, reviewing tender responses, specifications,
delivery timescales and progress, O&M manual.

In order to maintain their generation output and for safety purposes, renewable generation sources requiring maintenance and monitoring over their lifetime.
On receiving signed consent, exhaustive surveys are initiated to confirm project details and costings, including:

Leicestershire County Council
Corporate solar development
Undertook site screening, grid consultation, financial modelling and preparation, submission and management of a combined 10MW solar planning application and 7,500m2 industrial floor space.
The solar scheme was proposed to feed the industrial units in support of their initiative to become BREEAM ‘Excellent’, with any surplus electricity exported to the grid or to a nearby high electricity consumer via a corporate Power Purchase Agreement.
Solar and Wind Development
The Crown Estate and Tenant
Managed the project feasibility and delivery phases of solar farm and wind project at neighbouring farms on the Derwent Estate.
This project was complicated by the joint venture between the tenant and the Crown Estate, which required careful problem solving to allow the project to proceed in a way that worked for both parties.
We have since continued to manage the ongoing energy payments in relation to the solar and wind installations.
Solar PV Feasibility Studies
Yorkshire Water Services
Acting on behalf of Yorkshire Water Services to analyse half hourly consumption data and undertake planning / grid feasibility studies across the portfolio, to identify and prioritise the development of solar PV schemes with a private wire to the treatment works.
In excess of 50 sites have been reviewed and deemed commercially viable for development.
Wind Feasibility Screening
The Crown Estate
Carter Jonas undertook the screening and scoping of The Crown Estate’s eastern and Yorkshire portfolio of agricultural land for commercial wind farm and single medium scale development opportunities.
As part of this process a number of sites were identified with the necessary characteristics for potential development and this involved formulating development options and strategy for the client’s benefit. Carter Jonas project managed the exercise on behalf of The Crown Estate.
This piece of work culminated in the marketing of the sites for development, reviewing and analysing the tenders submitted and negotiating Heads of Terms for option and lease agreements based on the offers received.
Feasibility, Marketing and Tenders
Electric Vehicle Charging
The Carter Jonas Energy Team are currently undertaking feasibility assessment and site promotion work for approximately 100 Electric Vehicle charging developments, with charging infrastructure ranging from single slow / fast chargers up to 24 ultra-rapid charging points on a dedicated EV service station type development up to 2.5 acres in scale.
We are unable to provide any site-specific case studies at this stage given the position of each development, but hope to be able to share these details in the coming months.
