Wood Upcycling Art Piece at Concierge
The concierge table in the One Pacific Place office is a one-of-a-kind sculptural installation created by local wood upcycling artist Parry Ling. Built from woodblocks upcycled from the city’s tree debris, the table together with other smaller decorative pieces in the office represent a new life of urban wood, underlining our commitment to environmental sustainability.

Interviews
Interview with
Chinatsu Kaneko
Senior Director, Workplace Strategy Japan and North Asia, CBRE Chief Project Leader of the New Hong Kong Offices
1. How do corporate clients view Workplace360 nowadays?
Hopefully, they view CBRE Workplace 360 as best practice example of flexible work / Activity-based working (ABW). I hope our clients are saying to each other “if you want to see a good example of flexible workplace that increase employee engagement and collaboration, brand proposition, and smart use of real estate, you should visit CBRE Workplace 360 sites.
2. What are some of the popular trends you are seeing in Asia that are effective in driving employee engagement?
Companies are creating more casual collaborative social areas within the workplace – a place they call “home,” “innovation hub,” where people can gather to share knowledge, hangout and even innovate. These spaces often offer flexible settings and are equipped with great media technology (sometimes they offer good beverages!) so that they can accommodate many different types of events. Employees would invite their clients, business partners, sometimes friends to discuss all kinds of potential business or to network. If employees are proud to invite people to their workplace, I think it’s a good sign that they are engaged in the company they work for.
3. What does the next generation workplace mean to you?
To me, the next generation workplace is a place where diverse professionals choose to go because it enables interactions, collaboration, and inspiration.
4. How did the Hong Kong City & Park design concept come about?
In every CBRE 360 workplace project, I look for our people’s relationship with the city. CBRE Hong Kong members thrive in the energetic dense city and many of them are super athletes who enjoy the outdoors and nature. Therefore, City & Park was the obvious choice in my mind.
5. What was the biggest challenge in bringing your vision to life? How did you overcome it?
Needing to be in two locations while building ONE CBRE atmosphere. Thanks to technology, we can connect two locations via our huge screens – first I’ve seen in Asia!
COVID-19 impact on our layout. Luckily, our original layouts proved to be not-too-far-off from Social Distancing requirements. We already had good circulation distance built in as good workplace design anyways!
6. What is your favourite space in the new Hong Kong offices?
All of it! I like the one-of-a-kind concierge desk at One PP
and WELLNESS programs.
RISE Café
A global CBRE initiative which provides staff with a sanctuary away from their desks to eat, relax and collaborate. The Hong Kong RISE Café are in partnership with a Hong Kong based lifestyle brand The Coffee Academics which aims to offer quality healthy food & beverages.
Wellness was key to the design of this office. This extends beyond the physical space our CBRE people are in to everything they consume in the offices.
The RISE Café menu has been designed to offer CBRE colleagues a healthy balance of fruit and vegetable options, strict limits to sugar content and harmful trans fats. We aim to be transparent in the nutritional information, and to help our colleagues fuel their body and mind with wholesome, delicious foods.
1. When and where did you open the first The Coffee Academics (TCA)?
We began as a coffee-roasting studio and knowledge-sharing salon on Haven Street in 2010; subsequently we came up with the name “The Coffee Academics” and opened our first store with onsite roastery on Yiu Wah Street, Causeway Bay.
2. What is the current footprint of TCA?
How many shops and employees do you have?
Our retail footprint spans across the APAC region, in our home city of Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, soon opening in Macau and China. We currently have 20 retail shops, and numerous partnership kiosks. We have a motivated team of 200 and growing!
3. What does the next generation workplace mean to you?
To me, the next generation workplace is a place where diverse professionals choose to go because it enables interactions, collaboration, and inspiration.
4. What was your first reaction when CBRE approached you regarding the idea of running a TCA on our premises?
I was thrilled with this vision initiated by CBRE! To have the opportunity to partner with the world's leading real estate services and investment organization, bringing in specialty coffee and wholesome food offerings in a great setting is something wonderful and groundbreaking.
5. And what do you think about this partnership with CBRE now?
It has been a pleasure working with our counterparts at CBRE and seeing great efforts from both teams to bring forth one of the most exciting concepts in the industry. We cannot wait to unveil our TCA vibes to a wider global team in the near future!
6. Can you use one word to describe our CBRE RISE Café? And why is that?
I would use "perspective". "Brewing Perspectives" is one of our brand taglines; our space and coffee offers the time and space for customers to take a break from their routine and ponder upon issues close to them. We hope to inspire new perspectives and ideas through our coffee and services. I hope RISE Café will serve a similar purpose for CBRE team members and clients.
7. What is your favorite TCA drink and food? And why?
Every drink or plate of food is developed with heart and assembled with craftsmanship and high-quality ingredients.
I love them all, but if I had to choose, for beverage, I would choose Manuka from our Signature Naturally Sugared Latte Series; the New Zealand manuka honey adds just the right amount of sweetness to our house latte recipe, and it's a natural immunity booster. For food, I would recommend the BBQ Pork Rainbow Salad, which encapsulates all our ideals in our menu creation process: delicious, balanced, plant-forward, globally inspired.
