Ideas Report 2021
by WeTransfer, for WeTransfer
Since 2018, WeTransfer has been creating its annual Ideas Report, which is one of the world’s largest studies on the creative workforce, “digging into the minds of creatives (and clients) from almost every corner of the planet”. 10,000 creative professionals from 135 countries answer the survey, which is delivered through the WeTransfer advertising platform directly to its audience. For the 2021 report, 31% of respondents were designers, with a range of other creative fields represented including filmmakers, musicians, photographers, marketers, and advertising professionals.
This latest report looks at how the last year has changed the global creative industry, including insights such as why creative excellence is moving from the West to Latin America, why Gen Z is feeling the pressure of the climate crisis, and how women and people of colour are leading the charge for change. The design of the report itself reflects the ongoing tension between the online and offline worlds by referencing analogue processes such as printmaking through halftone and textural elements, and referencing data systems via technical drawings and orbs which circle each insight.
The judges said: “Great execution and beautiful use of 4k deep screen. Turned the Piccadilly area - known for selling ads and promoting consumption - into a stage to promote a sustainable message and to question ourselves.”
2021 Strava Year in Sport
by Manual, for Strava
Design and brand consultancy Manual once again joined forces with physical exercise tracking app Strava to work on Strava Year in Sport 2021. A personalised and data-driven experience, this in-app feature allows users to review the progress they’ve made over the year and share highlights and personal bests with friends and followers through their social media channels.
Alongside the Strava team and animator Sander van Dijk, Manual mapped out the story for the experience, exploring how the data could take shape through design and be conveyed in a dynamic, celebratory format. Using code-driven full screen animations, each data point is brought to life in a colourful and engaging way. The graphic language is based on intersecting shapes that reveal new colour relationships and serve to highlight key moments. Delivered to more than 95 million athletes within the Strava community, the Year in Sport is the perfect way for users to memorialise their achievements.
