Visa Masters of Movement
by Imagination, for Visa
Visa, sponsor of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, launched its global campaign, For Fans Everywhere, to demonstrate that the brand is more than just a credit card. As part of the campaign, it enlisted the help of design company Imagination to develop an innovative, accessible experience for the FIFA Fan Festival in Doha during the cup.
In response, Imagination came up with Visa Masters of Movement, a digital installation that utilised new technology to transform football moves on the pitch into digital art that could be minted as NFTs. These moves were captured using special tracking technology that recorded every action, including player movement, ball position, passes, skill moves and goals. Visitors to the festival were then invited to step onto the pitch themselves, choose the country they wanted to represent, and then perform their best moves with friends and in front of packed crowds at Qatar, and create their own, unique digital artworks. An instant success, the installation received 100,000 visits and 12,000 participants signed up and minted an NFT.
The judges said: “An engaging fan experience incorporating an interesting experiment with NFTs.”
Floral Guide
by Jason Bruges Studio, for EcoWorld London
Commissioned by sustainability-focused property developer, EcoWorld London, Jason Bruges Studio created an interactive, media artwork inspired by nature’s compass. Installed in an underpass connecting Kew Bridge Station and Brentford Community Stadium, the artwork sought to evoke a sense of community and enliven the journey to a new Kew Bridge development.
Titled Floral Guide, the artwork is an exploration of nature’s colour-based, wayfinding systems that uses a network of bespoke luminaires to resemble an ever-blooming glade. Built off the back of many conversations with scientists at the nearby Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, the artwork features a programmable media palette inspired by interactions between insects and plants, and displays different animations dictated by the time of day, proximity, direction and number of pedestrians. Drawn to the beautiful colours and movement, passers-by are then exposed to Kew Gardens' important research and provided with a sense of place and a connection to nature.
