On & On Collection
by Barber Osgerby, for Emeco
On & On represents Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby’s first collaboration with US furniture manufacturer Emeco, a company known and lauded for its use of environmentally friendly materials. The focus of the collaboration was to create the “next generation” of café chairs – something that could be both simple and timeless, but also still feel reminiscent of the classic bent wood chair of the 1930s.
As per Emeco’s environmental credentials, the three features of the series, a café chair, bar stool and table- height stool, have all been made mainly from recyclable PET, with glass fibre added for strength and finished with a non-toxic pigment colour. Beyond using more eco-friendly materials, the furniture pieces have actually been designed to use as few materials as possible, to ensure lower carbon emissions when shipping.
The judges said: “An excellent example of sustainable and functional work, that has been delivered beautifully, and really fulfills the brief.”
Yuno Office
by Wiesner-Hager
Wanting to develop a table that could be stored in the smallest of spaces, Austria-based furniture design studio Wiesner-Hager developed the Yuno office system. According to the team, “folding is a thing of the past”, so where traditional tables might require lengthy periods of time to set up and then dismantle, Yuno tables can be stored simply by stacking.
Up to 10 tables can be stacked at a time, and the design means just one person is needed to transport them. In addition, add-on features like a lockable storage compartment, power sockets and privacy panels can be used to turn the tables into “fully-fledged workstations”.
