Derry Girls
by 4creative, for Channel 4
To excite audiences in advance of the third and final series of sitcom Derry Girls, Channel 4 focused on the 1990s setting of the show.
Bringing back the 1990s editor of Smash Hits To create a one-off special edition of the title resulted in 28 pages of advice columns, dance moves, articles and record reviews that tapped into 90s nostalgia trends. Easter eggs for fans of the show featured throughout, with even the fake ads in the magazine being Derry-related.
Hunting down archive issues of Smash Hits on eBay helped the Channel 4 creative team to capture the look and feel of the times, from clashing colours to characterful typography. The special issue was distributed with Heat magazine and handed out across the UK.
Our judges said: “A great idea, brilliantly executed in an utterly convinving way, which stays true to the original Smash Hits.”
Woven by Adam Smith - Storied Dining
by Magpie Studio, for Coworth Park, The Dorchester Collection
The restaurant at Coworth Park was seeking a new look and feel to help it break out from being seen as ‘just’ a hotel dining area, and to establish a reputation in its own right.
A new name, Woven, was chosen to represent the craft and care shown by chef Adam Smith in his menu and to nurture the emotional experience that is such an important factor in modern fine dining.
The printed materials within the restaurant follow the same theme, weaving different textures, typefaces, collages and images together with literal storytelling to explain the inspiration and origin of the dishes.
Six months after introducing its new identity Woven won a Michelin Star at its first inspection.
Royal Mail – Pride
by NB Studio, for Royal Mail
A crowd of protesters marched from London’s Trafalgar Square on 1 July 1972, chanting ‘Gay is fun! Gay is proud! Gay is beautiful!’
Fifty years on, Royal Mail commissioned NB Studio to develop a set of eight special release stamps to commemorate the beginning of what would become the Pride movement.
The theme of the collection is A March Through Time, paying tribute to each subsequent decade of Pride from the original protest to the current day. Artist Sofie Birkin created free-flowing, colourful illustrations that tell the story of a community fighting for – and celebrating – its right to exist and be heard. In a first for Royal Mail the stamps feature a non-heteresexual couple kissing.
Produced in vivid full-bleed print, with a panoramic format to create the sense of a lifetime, the collection of stamps is conceived as a tapestry of movement.

150 Years of the FA Cup Stamps
by The Chase, for Royal Mail Stamps and Collectibles
Royal Mail issued a set of six stamps to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the first FA Cup Final, the oldest domestic football competition in the world.
Each stamp was to show a different aspect of the competition that, when taken together, show what makes the FA Cup so special: the fans, the stadium, ‘killer’ results, royal patronage and the match itself.
By changing the width of the classic white border found around most postage stamps and removing the bottom section allowed every image used to be framed by its own set of goalposts.
Archive photography show FA Cup milestones, such the first final held at Wembley Stadium, in 1923, and 14-time winners Arsenal raising the trophy in 1971.
