Better grades
The book “Spark: The Revolutionary Science of Exercise and the Brain,” argues that kids who get regular exercise – such as skating at a park – generally perform better in school.

Building social skills
Public skateparks function as safe designated places where kids can go to interact and share ideas. “I feel like that carries on through many parts of their life later,” says Tony.
No loitering
The vast majority of officers surveyed by the Tony Hawk Foundation said they’d heard fewer complaints from businesses about young skaters skateboarding on their property after the park openings.
Economic benefits
Skaters in an area might be prone to patronize nearby businesses more – say, to buy a snack near the park or skating gear from a local sporting goods store.
Decrease in crime
The Tony Hawk Foundation surveyed law enforcement officials who patrol areas where the foundation has helped fund the creation of skateparks. Almost half pointed to a decrease in overall crimes involving young people since the skateparks opened.
