What is RFID
THE TAG
What are the benefits?
DISCOVERY PHASE
RFID is built upon the foundation that each product has a unique number which can be read without line of sight.
Encoding is the process where the RFID tag has its unique identification written to it.
Which will hold the EPC
THE SOFTWARE
Which will manage the number allocation and details for the EPC and link it to the SKU
THE HARDWARE
To read the tag and communicate the EPC to the software

What is needed for pilot?
Hardware
RFID Handheld Reader with customer provided mobile device (Android or iOS)
For any RFID pilot you will need 3 things RFID labels to identify the products, hardware to read the tags and software to process the data. The key to a successful pilot is ensuring you have a clear understanding of the business issues you are looking to resolve and how you will measure these.

Pilot Stages & Outcomes
Our own experiences have led us to the following Stages of a Pilot of RFID technology. Each Stage of the Pilot is designed to enable measurements, adjustments and learnings:
SCOPING PHASE
01
First period should be used to embed best practice, stabilise the data and highlight inventory issues
Stage
Measure
02
Stage
Adjust
Second period should be used to correct SOH variances and improve stock accuracy & on-shelf availability
03
Stage
Review
Third period should be used to maintain best practice & stock accuracy and prepare the Business Case for roll-out
01
Qty Accuracy:
typically starts at <80% and gradually builds up to >97% based on identifying and addressing inventory variances.
02
SKU Accuracy: typically starts at <70% and gradually builds up to >94% based on identifying and addressing inventory variances.

Garments
Garments
(with seam)
Quickest option for implementation and for use across multiple product areas
Considerations
Easier for factories
to apply – replaces existing ticket
Considerations
RFID Integrated Tag
Quickest option for footwear deployment if only single shoes are displayed in store.
Considerations
RFID Box End Label
Allows RFID customer experience uses and helps brands control grey market
Considerations
Embedded RFID (shoe)
Starting point for embedding RFID in product for frictionless use cases.(RFID does not survive washing)
Considerations
RFID Pocket Tag
Removes the need for additional label as replaces care label. (RFID does not survive washing)
Considerations
RFID Care Label
Helps embed RFID in product for security as removal damages branding
(RFID survives 10 home washes)
Considerations
RFID Woven Label
Future technology allows RFID to be embedded into garment seam
(RFID survives industrial / enzyme and home washes)

What are retailers using RFID for?
All Started with Accurate Stock Availability
Building this foundation is the starting point of EVERY successful RFID implementation
These are ways to get extra value from initial investment in RFID. They are not the ROI driver.
Using a sticker is the fastest way to start – embedding RFID in product requires extensive supply chain & product testing – so normally retailers start with stickers and simple tags then test embedded options once roll out is complete and RFID is live in their business.
This is where you build your ROI
