The Chronicle of Higher Education Scholarship for Diversity in Media is part of our commitment to helping foster the next generation of journalists and bringing more diverse voices into the industry.
We invite you to apply! Here’s everything you’ll need to know before you get started.
What Do I Submit?
Submit a resume.
Submit an essay of 500-700 words describing your personal journey to pursue higher education.
Provide (3) work samples of reporting projects which can include articles, video, audio, etc. Please send audio or video files directly to scholarships@chronicle.com with your contact information.
How do I know if I’m eligible?

What Happens Next?
After you’ve submitted your application before the deadline of August 1, 2022, we’ll let you know we’ve received it.
We’ll notify the finalists and schedule interview sessions with the scholarship committee.
Scholarship interviews will take place virtually with our scholarship committee.
One scholarship totaling $10,000 will be awarded.
The scholarship recipient may accept the award, along with admission to The Chronicle’s Fall Workshop program for aspiring journalists in October 2022, or to a leadership mentoring program hosted by The Chronicle of Higher Education and The Chronicle of Philanthropy.
If you incur any travel or lodging expenses related to the workshop program or leadership mentoring program, a $3,000 stipend will be made available.

Due Date | August 1st 2022
Be an undergraduate or graduate student at an HBCU, an HSI, or another minority-serving institution.
Be pursuing a concentration in journalism
Verify that the scholarship award does not impact any financial aid or other needs-based awards you may have received or can apply for in the calendar year
Be available for a virtual interview if deemed a finalist for the award
