The Transcript of the Future
Many university officials and employers agree: The traditional transcript leaves much to be desired. The current version with its list of abbreviated course titles, credit hours, and grades, isn’t serving students well in an era with a greater emphasis on competencies and soft skills.
To offer a holistic view of a student’s work, colleges have experimented with digital portfolios that provide insights that go beyond grades to include a student’s skills, extracurricular activities, and more. The “new transcript” can also give students greater access to, and control over, their records.
