Myth: NaaS is about orchestrating new cloud and NFV-based enterprise services
Often NaaS is narrowly viewed as a way for CSPs to deliver virtualized business services, giving customers the ability to flexibly order, modify, and scale value-added services on demand. NaaS can and does simplify the introduction and delivery of NFV-based enterprise services, but it's also much more; it’s a framework that leverages model-driven abstraction, open interfaces, and service lifecycle automation to help CSPs better meet the needs of all their customers and partners. NaaS can be applied to any mix of cloud and virtualized services as well as traditional network connectivity services to support new business models for wholesale, retail, and enterprise customers.

Myth: NaaS is strictly about OSS transformation
Implementing NaaS results in OSS transformation, but it also helps CSPs accelerate transformation of their networks to realize the full promise of increased agility. NaaS leverages model-driven abstraction to decouple the OSS and network layers, and expose network capabilities via standard open APIs. In this way, resources within network domains can serve as reusable building blocks. This allows network innovations to be integrated more quickly and operations to be streamlined to increase service velocity, reduce costs, and improve customer experience through service lifecycle automation.

Myth: NaaS is the same as SDN
SDN is an approach to network architecture that leverages open APIs that allow networks to be intelligently and centrally controlled or programmed. This helps CSPs manage network domains consistently and holistically, regardless of the underlying network technology. NaaS goes beyond SDN by also using model-driven abstraction and service lifecycle automation to modernize the processes for designing, building, assuring, and managing the network as a whole, as well as the services that run on it. NaaS fundamentally changes the way networks are operated.

Myth: NaaS is only a vision
NaaS is often considered a futuristic vision or an unrealistic ideal. But CSPs are implementing it today in production deployments. Not only is NaaS ready for primetime, it’s a field-proven, well-defined framework built on existing standards.
