Risk factors are conditions or behaviors that increase your chances of developing a disease. When you have more than one risk factor, your risk of developing a serious or chronic illness, such as heart disease or diabetes, increases. Most risk factors can be controlled, but there are a few that can’t.

10 Healthy New Year’s Resolutions
are easy to set, easy to keep.
Healthy resolutions that
Setting a goal to go for a 15-minute walk at lunch or to move 5 minutes every hour is easy to do and can help improve your weight, mood and overall mortality.
Sit less and move more.
Gradually minimizing your intake can help you kick your sugary drink habit and also help lower your risk of obesity, heart disease, diabetes and cavities.
Cut back on sweetened beverages.
Making one home-cooked meal a day, then increasing the frequency until you’re making the majority of your meals and snacks at home, will help you achieve a healthier diet.
Cook more meals at home.
Whether it’s relaxing in a bath, attending a yoga class or preparing a special meal, taking time for yourself is not selfish. In fact, it’s imperative for optimal health and well-being.
Plan more “me time.”
Hiking on weekends or simply enjoying the beauty of a local park is easy to do and can help relieve stress, elevate your mood and even lower blood pressure.
Spend more time outside.
Setting a resolution to cut back on scrolling through social media, watching TV or playing computer games may help boost your mood and enhance productivity.
Limit screen time.
Research shows that hobbies can help you live a longer, healthier life, so this is the year to try a hobby you’ve always been interested in – or go back to a hobby that used to bring you joy.
Try a new hobby.
Brushing and flossing your teeth regularly can help prevent gum disease and bad breath, – and possibly other serious health conditions, such as Alzheimer’s disease and heart disease.
Take care of your teeth.
Regular exams are important because having regular blood work and necessary screenings can help spot potential problems before they turn into something more serious.
Visit your doctor.
Now that you’ve set goals for healthier New Year’s resolutions, be sure to share them with your primary care provider at your next preventive care appointment. To make an appointment, visit Find a Doctor | Evernorth Care or call 800.233.3264.
