For this year’s Citywire Florence 2020 edition, although we won’t be gathering in our iconic setting of the four Seasons Hotel in Florence, we are delighted to be able to reunite our friends and your fellow peers of the Italian fund selection industry to bring to life - albeit virtually - this especially-designed virtual edition in this moment in history in which, more than ever, uniting to share thoughts and ideas is furthermore pivotal.
Over the course of this year’s Citywire Florence virtual edition, you shall find us at each virtual fund manager workshop introducing the fantastic line-up of leading fund managers for in-depth workshops drilling down on key asset classes and strategies, sharing thoughts on how to navigate the markets, as well as to take your questions live during the workshops, unpicking the key questions you are wanting to scrutinise with the fund managers and your peers.
Last but not least, as usual, we’ve raised the bar again bringing you two tailor-made conference sessions to leave you with plenty of precious ‘food for thought’ to implement ‘on the job’ - wherever you might be working from.
Our key note session shall come from Lucio Caracciolo, editor-in-chief of the Italian geopolitical review, Limes, who shall shine a light on key aspects in the thick of the international agenda, coloured at this time, most notably by the US elections.
To top this off, we are proud to host the bespoke virtual fund selector panel session in which a line-up of senior figures from the community boasting a mass of experience in fund and manager selection will be drilling down on crucial aspects at this historic time, offering our ‘virtual guests’ plenty of practical and real-life examples and ideas to tackle this unprecedented moment tinged by the Covid 19 fluctuations, impacting the everyday life and your portfolios too.
Until we can finally see you all again in person, we very much look forward to re-connecting with each and every one of you, on-line, for this evermore special virtual edition of Citywire Florence 2020.

19.11 — 20.11
virtual event
Citywire Florence 2020 Virtual will take place against the backdrop of heightened global tension, marked by a number of conundrums: Brexit; the US presidential elections and its potentially-disputed outcome which could cause a difficult power transition; Russia and China’s geopolitical ambitions and some of the tools and measures to tackle these, such as the Quad: an informal, anti-Chinese Indo-Pacific alliance between the US, Australia, India and Japan – a near Asian NATO of such.
A heavily complicated context, further burdened by the impending exit of German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, in 2021 and the political consequences for Germany and the EU; furthermore, the worsening friction between France and Turkey and the ongoing tensions in the Middle-East, with the dreaded Iran-US conflict, looming closer than ever.
The list of interlinked geopolitical threats and events continues increasing, shaking global stability and the GPR (Geopolitical Risk Index) continues soaring at high levels. These increasing geopolitical and geo-economic tensions represent in fact the most urgent global risks which need to be tackled, with urgency, which many foresee are bound to further increase in 2021.
Our keynote speaker shall be Lucio Caracciolo, editor-in-chief of the Italian geopolitical review, Limes, as well as one of the world’s leading experts on geopolitics. In a world that is continually confronted with numerous crises in parallel and with geopolitical risks affecting the global financial markets, the latter is what increasingly makes a difference and is possibly the most difficult to predict.
During this exclusive key note session, Mr. Caracciolo will illustrate on the risks tied to the international geopolitical context, examining the various scenarios and, along with some of our guests, will try to interpret their impact on the global markets and on the investment portfolios. Last but not least, Mr. Caracciolo will shine a light on the concept of geopolitical grammar and on how the latter imposes choices that are different to those which appear and are portrayed by the media.
The amount of data that can now be interpreted by analysts and fund managers is growing at an exponential rate and unstructured alternative data sets are becoming more important than ever with big data and artificial intelligence heavily impacting the traditional investment process.
How are fund selectors reacting to this revolution? What’s their feedback on fund managers using Big Data and AI to generate Alpha? And what are the implications and the challenges of selecting fund managers adopting AI and big data?
In this new Selector Hard Talk leading European fund selector guests will drill down into these burning issues and many more, bringing our audience precious food for thought and best practices to implement in this fast-paced environment.

How to get the best experience of Berlin Virtual
If your company has blocked the use of Zoom, you can watch the whole event from this website.
Each session will be streamed to this webpage so you won’t need to connect to Zoom to be part of the action.
To ask questions throughout you can join the Zoom call or you can email in. Buttons for both of these will appear under the video streams.
The best thing you can do to ensure the highest quality is to make sure you have a great connection to the internet. Ideally the machine should be cabled into the router. Understandably this cannot always be done, in which case Wi-Fi would be needed.
The recommended internet speed for HD quality is 3 Mpbs up and down, this can be checked on your machine by going to speedtest and pressing Go.
A headset with a microphone would also be ideal to achieve the best audio for the sessions.
Please also ensure that all non-essential programs are closed prior to joining the call. This will help reduce the processor and memory usage by the machine and also avoid any notifications from popping up.
One final tip would be to ask if members of the household could not be on Netflix, gaming and other internet hungry activities as this will affect the connection as well.
If your company has blocked the use of Zoom, please see below alternative ways of connecting
