Climate action milestones
In a short space of time, discussions around ESG have gone from the fringe to the core of asset management, but this change is the result of decades of groundwork. This month we rewind almost 30 years, to the original meeting of nations in 1992 which laid the foundations for the Conference of Parties (COP) and the shifts in
international attitudes that followed.
Using the intervening COPs as a basis, we look at asset management through the prism of the forthcoming COP26 to see how crucial
areas such as adaptation, natural capital, clean transport, green finance and, ultimately, zero emissions, are being addressed by
the funds industry.
This takes us into intriguing new territory, from hearing how fund
managers are dealing with challenging obstacles to finding out what action asset managers are taking to ensure their businesses meet zero carbon aims by the much-discussed 2050 deadline.
There are deep dives into the world of water resources, an understanding of how companies are adapting to the increased demands on emissions reduction and a guest contribution on how this all syncs with the United Nation’s SDGs.
In addition, we ask fund buyers how they are contributing and
find out which ecology and clean energy funds are making it onto their buy lists.
COP26, which takes place in the UK later this year, is viewed as
a chance to make the first significant steps since the Paris Agreement was signed at COP21. The world’s population is
watching and the fund selection community will be right there
with them.
