IT’S SHOWTIME!
Many found solace during the Covid-19 pandemic by retreating into the escapist bliss of cinema. However, the movie industry itself was hit hard by the global health crisis, as filming was postponed, cinemas were shuttered and many major releases were either reworked or repeatedly pushed back. At the time of writing, the new James Bond film appears likely to come out closer to 2050 than today.
Nevertheless, the industry has shown it can adapt. The move to simultaneous releases between online formats or via satellite services, coupled with stripped-back and increasingly innovative ways of filming, has allowed creativity to flourish at a time when it could easily have withered away.
Like fund selection, the world of cinema would be nowhere without those with the vision to see what will work, what won’t and what potentially lies ahead. In that regard, many fund buyers take the director’s chair – in choosing where their portfolios should go – as well as in assembling the right cast. of funds investment.
As with previous incarnations of The 100, this edition showcases a mixture of older hands who have helped shape the selection business, alongside rising talents
who are starting to make their mark in their respective regions, and beyond. We take a closer look at what
makes these professionals tick, the sorts of assets they are overseeing and what they are looking forward to in a post-Covid world.
As the 2021 Oscars showed, the slow road to genuine diversity is gradually progressing and, again, there are parallels with fund management. In this year’s publication, we shine a light on the growing number of female fund buyers wielding considerable power and influence in the industry today.
So, dim the lights, grab the popcorn and feast your eyes on the complete list of the 100 fund selectors from across Europe, who should feature on any industry insider’s watch list.
