Our Impact
We are all about building real, meaningful change from the ground up. Building equitable opportunities, relationships and accountability are what makes this program so successful. That includes participation in workforce development initiatives, having a fair, inclusive bid solicitation process for all of our partners, minority youth mentorships, our charitable foundation, community engagement and so much more.

Mentorship
On the subcontracting side we are currently mentoring over 300 firms nationwide through our MWBE Resource Center Page and bi-weekly calls. However, we also have market and project-specific mentoring as part of our prequalification process. We have never participated in any government or formal mentorship program; only our own internal approach to mentoring as a Clayco trait that is built in to our prequalification process.
In the Community
The Clayco culture is built on building more than structures. We believe our projects are building communities, and that the jobs don’t stop when the projects open. We partner with the communities in which we operate, and we’re in it for the long haul, giving time, energy, and resources to the projects and charities that can help build these communities. It is, and will always be, an important part of our identity. We’re working with nonprofit organizations to support education, the arts, medical research, disaster relief and opportunities for minorities, youth and the underprivileged.
Since 2015, CCDI has been striving to increase awareness of the construction trades and developing the local workforce and Clayco has been a sponsor or the program every step of the way.
Overall, CCDI has had 1220 program graduates trained and placed into full-time employment, 34 higher education Build Our Future Scholarships awarded, 40 participants receiving one-on-one mentorship, 70 high school students in the program pipeline.
Our Clayco team has had a strong relationship with the Mathew’s Dickeys Boys and Girls club for over 25 years. They do great work supporting the youth in the entire metropolitan area. Since 2015, Clayco has participated in Mathew-Dickey Boys and Girls Club annual holiday charity by donating to communities and families in need. In total, our team has collected over $40,000+, sponsored 15 families and delivered food donations to local food pantries and homeless shelters.

KAI Design & Build
Ramona Westbrook, CEO
Brook Architecture
"Our experience on the project was very positive and rewarding. We were given a significant role in the design phase as Interior Design Architects for the administrative floors. We also had a chance to observe the clinical planning and design process and that will help as we navigate our entry into the healthcare market."
Jameson Christopher, Owner
Trihanson
"Clayco is one of the companies that I would say believes in building companies... They have little clinics that help you. If you’re struggling, they: ‘What’s wrong? How can we help you?' That company, I believe, is a model for helping to bring minority companies along to a place where they can grow and mature."
Kelly Powers Baria, Vice President
Powers & Sons
"Through our partnership with Clayco, we were selected as the GC for the interior build-out of the Cook County Central Health Campus. This project was Powers & Sons’ largest build-out project to date, growing our portfolio and setting a company precedent for future work. Our partnership on the project are testaments of Bob Clark and Clayco’s commitment to work with diverse contractors of all sizes.
Robert J. McGee, Owner/President
II in One Constractors Inc.
"In our experience working with Construction Managers and General Contractors, we have found Clayco to be unique in their commitment of time and resources to support II in One to ensure our success. They have shared with us their best practices learned from their work performed across the country."
Success stories
“I feel like I'm paving the way for others. That's the impact that I think I'm having on others. Not just women asking me about construction, men twice my age coming to me for guidance on how to get in or what to do."

The Future Leaders Fellowship will support and cultivate future arts leaders and administrators from backgrounds historically underrepresented in opera and arts administration, particularly those who identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, Person of Color). Opera Theatre’s Clayco Future Leaders Fellowship Program will provide in-depth experiences that advance the skills, knowledge, and capabilities that make these careers possible. We’ve created the Clayco Diversity Scholarship in Penn State Department of Architectural Engineering (AE) to help contribute to the diversity of the student body and aid full-time undergraduate students who have financial need. At Clayco, we make it our mission to help remove barriers and bring diversity to the design and construction industries. The Clayco Diversity Scholarship is the largest of the foundation’s contributions to the University. The foundation has also contributed to existing scholarships and a research grant within the Penn State College of Medicine.
