Named to commemorate the University’s 40th anniversary, SCAD FORTY is a noteworthy campus connector hub that inspires students to engage and create. The two-wing residence tower supports 45 suites, 44 pods and 16 apartments for a total of 593 student beds. Amenities include a shaded terrace for student gatherings, rooftop event space, three-story art-filled lounge including a disco themed laundry and gaming area, study spaces on every floor and coffee bar for creative inspiration.
On a previously underutilized site, FORTY became a unique pedestrian connection. Nestled into a steep rocky slope adjoining HWY 75, the grade change is utilized to organize internal program. The garden spaces around the building provide spaces to gather and interact.

in the sky
The SCAD FORTY project expands the Atlanta campus presence in a creative and artful way. Despite its location on a sliver of heavily wooded site on a steep rocky slope, the design team
reimagined the site to create a unique student community and a simple, but powerful statement.
Campus presence is expanded to this site in an impactful way through developing a unique pedestrian connection to future developments on Spring Street.
Full height glass lines the ground floor plane welcoming students and creating inside/out connection for those socializing inside. Two boxed, white architectural features notate the public community and event zones.
The vibrant stair connects the central lobby to the gaming lounge and amenity deck. The offset metal pickets uses a camouflaged modular system that contrasts the concrete structure.
Through style, comfort, and convenience, FORTY provides a unique environment showcasing the uniqueness of SCAD’s student body to inspire their artistic energy.
The “gallery-like” interiors feature sustainable finishes throughout, exposing the structural precast of walls, ceilings, and floors. Bright white walls contrast the concrete in community areas as the backdrop to the vibrant and creative artwork of the student body alumnus.
There is no such thing as an “ordinary space” in SCAD FORTY. The community laundry room is a vibrant, social hangout hub with green astro turf walls and disco ball lighting. Community interaction is enhanced with a gaming lounge adjacent.
