Announce hazards like potholes, glass, sand, etc. to other riders around you.
You should always pass others on their left. Say “on your left” out loud to warn them.
Be predictable — Others expect you to continue straight ahead at a constant speed unless you indicate differently.
Use verbal commands and hand signals to alert drivers and riders when you turn, slow or stop.
Watch out at intersections.
Confirm that it is safe to cross
before proceeding.
Keep ears free. Do not use headphones or cell phones
while riding.
Bike lights help road users and pedestrians see you.
Make sure your tires have enough air and carry extra tubes and a bike tire repair kit at all times.
Ensure your bike is tuned-up before you ride. Oil the chain, test gears and check brakes.
Always wear a bike helmet.
Check your helmet condition before you ride.
