We are familiar with the full spectrum of event cancellation issues as well as lottery and prize indemnity exposures. With the rise of prize vouchers and special deals, over-redemption insurance demand has grown considerably. We provide coverage advice in racehorse winnings, football pools and bonus indemnity. We have particular expertise in the sporting and music industries and have acted on many very high-profile recent matters within the UK, Europe, US and Australia involving event cancellation as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Any form of TV or film production requires a huge investment from the production company, and we have experience of dealing with claims when unforeseen events prevent the completion of those projects or their curtailment including cast injury, filming delays, advertising issues and media interference. Our team advises on wording and regulatory issues worldwide and assists in setting up strategic partnerships.
Our UK team in conjunction with our German office provided advice in respect of a professional skier’s claim that he had suffered a complete sports disability so as to access insurance coverage. Through our investigations we identified that the skier had been unsuccessful at the Winter Olympics and unable to obtain a place within his national team, which placed his claim that a historic injury was career ending in a less credible light. The claim involved navigating court appointed expert evidence and persuading an Austrian Court by utilising evidence from our contacts within the GB skiing medical team. We successfully defended this insurance claim in court all the way up to the Supreme Court in Austria.
