Network sharing enables two or more operators to share assets – sites, masts, HVAC antennas and even spectrum – in order to deliver services.
Having originated as a way
to lower deployment costs especially in rural areas, sharing now helps facilitate rollout new technologies such as 5G and fixed broadband.

Passive network elements do not process telecommunication signals in any way, meaning they are not integrated into the system or involved in conveying signals. These include, for instance masts, heating, ventilation, power supplies and air conditioning systems.
Active network elements are those that generate, process, transmit, amplify and control signals.
This can include electronic equipment (hardware and software) such as transmitters, receivers, multiplexers, amplifiers and decoders but separate from core networks.
