Dr. Mona Gohara: So a sunburn is The Toxic Insult
to the skin. If you like, took like a little biopsy of the skin when you have a sunburn, you're going to see dead skin cells. They're called sunburn cells and they're dead. Whereas the hyperpigmentation is actually like a proactive state where the skin is actually trying to protect itself.
Michelle: How does hyperpigmentation compare to a sunburn or other damage that can
be triggered by sun exposure?
Michelle: Got it! So the hyperpigmentation is the reaction.
Jenny: I feel like if we rebranded sunburn as "Toxic Insult," more people would wear sunscreen.
Mona: Yeah! Exactly!
