The scalp is home to a diverse microbiome that plays a critical role in maintaining skin health, according to a study published in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology. The study found that an imbalanced scalp microbiome can lead to a range

and thinning.
But the science behind the scalp differs from that of the skin cells of the body. For instance, the skin cells on the scalp are renewed after approximately 10 days instead of the regular 26-day cycle. Additionally, the scalp has the highest sebum production in the body; and the hair follicles on the scalp are 10-15 times denser than the ones on the arms.
