The Eiffel Tower
Is there a more recognizable landmark in
the world than the Eiffel Tower? Originally intended to be a temporary structure for the 1889 World’s Fair, the iron structure was the tallest tower in the world at the time, coming in at just over 1,000 square feet. The landmark receives almost 7,000,000 visitors a year.
Les Halles du Marché
Market halls are a mainstay of food shopping
in France, with local fruits, vegetables, meats, cheeses, dairy, and more. Each town has its own, and in Paris, the oldest market still running is the Marché des Enfants Rouges in the Marais, which dates back to the early 1600s.
Pont du Gard
Standing 160 feet high, this ancient Roman aqueduct was built in the first century AD to carry water over 30 miles. This architectural marvel is comprised of three tiers of limestone arches and crosses the Gardon River, located between Nimes and Avignon in the southeastern region of France.
