Nicknamed “the biggest and baddest track in NASCAR”, Talladega has the highest banking turns in NASCAR at 33-degrees (Charlotte’s second with 24 degrees while Michigan has 18).
This high banking resulted in the fastest lap ever recorded when Bill Elliott hit 212.809 mph in 1987.
At 2.66 miles long, Talladega is the longest oval track in the series with speeds topping out at over 190 MPH. Because of its speed, Talladega is one of two tracks where restrictor plates are required to stop speeds from climbing too high.
Dale Earnhardt holds the record for most wins at Talladega with 10. Rusty Wallace, while testing a stock car without a restrictor plate, holds the fastest lap time at 44.27 seconds .
