With attractive architectural character, standout cuisine, and an undeniable connection to its past, Ridgewood redefines hipness.
Easily the most well-known of the Bucks County hamlets, New Hope is home to “it” eateries that have become notably popular with the New York celebrity crowd: Odette’s at River House and Stella of New Hope. There are other great choices, too — we like Karla’s, a local favorite with very strong drinks and bar food; The Salt House, with elevated pub fare; Oldestone Steakhouse, located in a converted church, for the carnivores; and V-Spot Food, a great new vegan spot. If you’re looking for live music, hit Triumph Restaurant & Brewery, which hosts musicians every Friday evening and Sunday afternoon.
If you’re looking for quick and easy bites: Ferry Market has a mix of local vendors with indoor and outdoor seating options. Soulberry Natural Food Market has pizza, grain bowls, and salads, as well as a smoothie bar and kombucha on tap.
And though New Hope has fewer antique dealers than neighboring Lambertville, David Mancuso, Antiques at the Old Church, offers a very well curated selection. We also like Eight Hands Farm & Bee Co., which sells locally made candles, honey, and soap.

These three historic neighboring communities — Washington Crossing is, of course, where George Washington stood when he crossed the Delaware in 1776 — are often grouped together because of their proximity to each other.
In Newtown, for more casual meals, we like the French-influenced brunch at Golden Pheasant, with outdoor seating in the garden when the weather permits, and the brick-oven pizza at Acqua e Farina. There’s also plenty of sit-down dinner options — our agent favorites include Amma’s South Indian Cuisine, La Stalla, and Rocco’s at the Brick.
In Yardley, if we’re cooking at home, we like to stop by the Yardley Farmers’ Market, which is open year-round and hosts local farmers, as well as some prepared food vendors. For a casual snack or light meal, we recommend Vault Brewing, a brewpub with excellent food and occasional live music, and Pretty Bird Coffee, which has an extensive coffee and tea list, along with breakfast sandwiches. For dinner, we’ll often head to Charcoal BYOB, which has stunning views of the river.
Yardley is also home to Krysset, a tiny boutique filled with an excellent selection of unusual artisan home goods, jewelry, and treats — all made by American artists from around the country.

Lambertville is the antiques capital of New Jersey, and the town’s strong café and cocktail scene is perfect for libation breaks while treasure hunting. We especially like Touch of the Past Antiques — owned by Corcoran Sawyer Smith’s own James Steen — a multi-level antique showroom with 50 dealers showing their wares. We’re also big fans of The People Store, home to 50 (different) antique dealers and artists, selling an eclectic mix of items, ranging in price from $3 knickknacks to $3,000 pieces of art. For more modern goods, we like Foxy Reds, which sells home goods and jewelry.
For the caffeine fiends, we recommend Lambertville Trading Company, the oldest coffee shop in town; Luminary Coffee, a micro roastery that’s especially popular with coffee fanatics; and Union Coffee, a new cafe with live music and a rotating gallery of art.
And for those looking for something stronger, we love The Boathouse, a cozy spot specializing in classic cocktails, and Anton’s at the Swan — eat at the bar of this restaurant to experience peak cozy fireside ambiance. For the morning after, we’re loving Hash House, a new breakfast and lunch spot specializing in hash browns, grits, and every other hangover cure. (Its name is a reference to the nearby Union Chill Cannabis Company.)

Established in the 1930s, the New Hope Playhouse is a legend of the summer stage, over the years attracting such performers as Grace Kelly, Dick Van Dyke, and Walther Matthau.
As the county seat of Bucks, Doylestown is the one of the bigger towns along the river. Bigger is relative, though; it has just over 8,000 residents, but with three bookstores, it has one of the highest bookstores-to-people ratios in the entire country.
If you’re looking for something other than books, we’re partial to Seedlings & Sprouts, a kids’ clothing boutique; Terrain, a branch of the chic plant nursery and garden store; and Ventresca, a custom men’s tailor that’s been in business for more than 40 years.
For eating out, our picks include Native Café, with great coffee and a small menu; Empanada Mama, a tiny place with delicious food; Domani Star, which has live jazz in addition to wonderful food; Honey, a cozy sit-down spot; and Lovebird, which serves cage-free, all-natural, gluten-free fried chicken.
Doylestown, PA
Flemington, the Hunterdon County seat, is lesser known than Doylestown, its Bucks County counterpart — but with our long-time office presence in town, we’ve got the scoop on the best eats in town (and nearby). Everyone in our office is loving Bread & Culture, a new sourdough bakery with California vibes, and The Fudge Shoppe is our go-to spot for chocolates and fudge.
In neighboring towns, we’re particularly partial to Canal House Station, a restaurant inside an 1870s train station with a farm-to-table menu in Milford, NJ; Harper’s Table, which serves comfort food alongside an extensive beer list in Annandale, NJ; and in Asbury, NJ, we like the Ciderhouse at Ironbound Farm, which serves its own line of hard ciders made from apples harvested locally. There’s a strong craft beer culture in Hunterdon County, and the Hunterdon Beer Trail is a fun way to explore seven local breweries.

Stockton is a tiny town that’s about 10 minutes from Lambertville, with a population just shy of 500. Nevertheless, Stockton has an outsized presence in the area, with two newer establishments that have quickly become popular: Black Shed is a garden center and nursery that is so much more, as it sells new and antique home goods, boasts a bar and café, and hosts different food trucks during the summer. Starving Artist Café, which just opened in 2024, is a venue opened by Todd Ellis, a long-time local musician and chef, which serves great food alongside live music.
Stockton has also great options for both beer and wine lovers, with Odd Bird Brewing, a local favorite that’s conveniently connected to a gas station, with crowlers to go, as well as Stockton Fine Wine, which offers a concierge service to help you choose the perfect selection of wine, spirits, or craft beers for your next event.
Stockton, NJ
Frenchtown is popular with artists and writers (much like the whole region, really) and the shopping here reflects the artistic bent of its residents. We like to stop in Frenchtown Pottery and Modern Love when looking for gifts; they both have a stylish, unusual, and well-curated selection of home goods and housewarming presents. For dinner, we’ll stop by Tavern 519, a low-key tavern with great food and a local favorite.
It’s also such short drive (or bike ride) between so many of the towns that it’s worth exploring beyond the obvious suspects.

Clinton is actually on the Raritan River, not the Delaware, but we love stopping by The Red Mill Museum Village, a historic museum with a grist mill, blacksmith shop, and barn. It’s open year-round, but we especially enjoy visiting in the fall when it turns into the haunted Red Mill, with spooky decorations in every corner. We also like NorthlandZ, the world’s largest model railroad, with trains running through a miniature wonderland of tunnels, mountains, and forests, in a region with quite a few full-size historic trains to ride.

The Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park Trail — not to be confused with the Delaware Canal, on the Pennsylvania Side — extends along 77 miles of the old tow path from Trenton to New Brunswick.
The arched West Trenton railroad bridge spans the Delaware between West Trenton and Yardley, carrying both CSX freights and commuters on SEPTA's West Trenton Line.

The tranquil Delaware River forms a natural boundary between Pennsylvania and New Jersey, neatly cleaving the two states as it flows from New York’s Catskill Mountains all the way into Delaware Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. The sparkling ribbon of water also serves as the unifying thread that joins together a string of delightful villages on both sides — places like New Hope and Yardley in Pennsylvania’s Bucks County, and Stockton and Frenchtown in New Jersey’s Hunterdon County.
“Greater Bucks County has always been hot, but I do think it’s now just coming into its own,” says Sawyer Smith, who along with Katherine Weidel, oversees Corcoran Sawyer Smith's offices in Doylestown, PA, as well as Lambertville and Flemington, NJ. Weidel, a Bucks County native, represents the fourth generation of her family in local real estate.
