Introduction
The Flexera 2022 State of the Cloud Report says that 89 percent of organizations have a multi-cloud strategy, and that 80 percent of that group utilize a hybrid approach by connecting multiple public and private clouds. Fast, efficient cloud connectivity can give businesses many advantages – better customer experiences, revenue opportunities within a digital ecosystem and cost reductions. However, managing a distributed network architecture is one of the greatest challenges of multi-cloud deployments. The Open Cloud Exchange (OCX) is a software-defined networking platform that virtualizes and automates complex network and cloud management functions. With the OCX, businesses: Elevate business agility Reduce total cost of operation Accelerate time to market Expand addressable customer base

OCX Use Cases
Near-universal digital business needs and solutions
Scenario: Multiple cloud-based infrastructure providers make up your existing network architecture and require trust in a connectivity provider for redundancy, automated backup and recovery of mission-critical information. Solution: CoreSite’s Virtual Router combines connectivity to multiple cloud infrastructure providers in diverse regions to access your virtual private cloud (VPC) networks on a fast, secure and reliable platform meeting all your disaster recovery needs.
Disaster Recovery
Scenario: You are looking to expand your digital transformation, but don’t want to be locked-in to long-term contracts; you want direct cloud connectivity, but current knowledge is internet-based; you currently have a single public cloud provider but need one with the agility to grow. Solution: CoreSite’s Virtual Router does not have a term, allowing you to turn services up and down on demand based on business needs. The network automation allows establishing Layer 3 peering with multiple cloud providers seamlessly, utilizing the technical skills you have in-house.
Add Agility to Digital Transformation
Scenario: Data needs to be transferred between different cloud regions or between two different clouds to enable and simplify the multi-cloud architecture. This could be used when transferring to a new cloud provider to take advantage of specific services within a cloud or improve financial risk. Solution: Utilizing CoreSite’s Virtual Router, you can establish private connections to the necessary cloud providers for direct data transfer. This can be automated, allowing data to transfer directly between cloud providers rather than backhauling the data to the customer's premises. All of this is accomplished without investing in any equipment.
CLOUD-TO-CLOUD CONNECTIVITY
Ten years ago, when CoreSite introduced the Open Cloud Exchange, moving workloads to the cloud was just being recognized as business-imperative. AWS re: Invent was held for the first time. Tellingly, the keynote address was kicked off by Terry Wise, Head of Partner Business Development. What’s prescient is that he points to business partnerships and applications as the “interesting” thing about cloud infrastructure. We are now thinking of partners as a “digital ecosystem” and applications as “workloads and services.” CoreSite is enabling that ecosystem with a native digital supply chain and orchestrating the logistics with the Open Cloud Exchange. The native digital supply chain is the digital infrastructure stretching from an enterprise core to any edge, including converged wireline and wireless infrastructure. It’s “native” because it extends the concept of cloud native (developed specifically for cloud) into the holistic infrastructure. The “goods” are data shared in digital ecosystems, passed by workloads deployed on-premises, in colocation data centers and clouds, and at edges. Stakeholders integrate into the digital supply chain at various points and, as we are seeing, data is gathered, processed and acted on at various locations as well.
