Funding Illinois' ACA Medicaid
Federal dollars cover 90% of funding for those who received Medicaid coverage under the Affordable Care Act Medicaid expansion.
Some states that voted for Donald Trump and states that voted for Kamala Harris chose to expand Medicaid after the Affordable Care Act became law. Twelve states — red and blue and including Illinois — also passed trigger laws that would end ACA expansion coverage if the federal funding dropped below a certain level. In Illinois that threshold is 90%.
