Cycle, Run, Walk, SEND Inspire!
“This event is extremely important to us locally to remember our former colleague, Rob, so we were delighted that we were able to turn this event into a virtual challenge in 2020.
“One of our main goals was to promote the Rob Worboys Arran Challenge to our clients and colleagues based outside Scotland and with over 300 new participants taking part in this year’s event we couldn’t have asked for a better response.
“Arran is a very special place and we really hope we will be able to return to the island in 2021.”
Rob Worboys Challenge
The Rob Worboys Challenge 2021 is part of Cushman & Wakefield’s National Make An Impact Day which unfortunately will still be in a virtual world! Everyone can get involved and start training for either the Full Worboys or Half Worboys.
From receipt of invitation to 31st May 2021.
This is a fundraising event, this year we will focus on raising money for the Education Pillar of C&W’s Charity Programme. Education services in our communities have been deeply affected by COVID restrictions over the last year, we are pleased to be helping by raising money that will be split equally across 4 fantastic charities (you can read more about the charities selected below).
Each participant in the Rob Worboys Challenge should register making a minimum donation of £15 per person, you will then need to use your network of friends, family and contacts and aim to raise a total of £100 individually or £500 per team. C&W will match fund your fundraising total.
Before registration, please click on our DONATE button & follow the instructions, please note your Donation Reference and return to this page and click on REGISTRATION to finalise your entry.
Preferably Donate for each team member, this will allow us to capture an ID from the Donation page for each participant in the challenge. If you are making a Donation on behalf of the team, please list all team members in your registration form and their contact email addresses.
YES – we would request a minimum Donation of £15 per participant. All monies raised will go to the elected charities.
On Strava. We will communicate what Strava club to join prior to the event depending on what team you are in. More info to follow.
No – the data for the event can only be recorded via Strava.
Teams are likely to be colleagues, as long as it is 5 members, diverse in age and gender. If you are not entering as part of a team and wish to be included in one, please state on your registration form, and what region/locality you would be involved in and we will attach you to a team.
YES – each participant to qualify for the Full challenge
has to complete 3.5 hours of cycling and 3.5 hours of walking/running. Those doing the Half must complete
3.5 hours of walking/running.
YES – but you will be allocated to either a social or competitive team in your local area.
Unfortunately, no.
Unfortunately no – that would be an unfair advantage against those doing both activities.
YES – we encourage this!
YES – as long as diverse in age and gender.
Each team will have a point of contact at C&W to ask questions to and keep you updated about the event. These people will be in touch nearer to the event date.
YES – please email us and let us know so we know not to expect a registration form. DONATE HERE
NO - Login to Strava. Start/stop for each part of the event and Strava will log your distance automatically through your club.

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE AWARDS
The Full Worboys challenge involves a team of five using a combination of cycling, walking and running to travel as far as each competitor can in 7 hours. This will be approximately the equivalent of going around the virtual 56 mile round trip of the Island of Arran and then climbing Goat Fell.
Participants will use Strava to record a 3.5 hour cycle in the morning
(e.g. 9am – 12.30am), followed by a lunch break/transition period
(e.g. 12.30am – 2pm) and then complete a further 3.5 hour walk/run
(e.g. 2pm – 5.30pm). The timings are not strict, but participants must complete both 3.5 hour parts before 7pm on 10th June.
The transition period at lunch time should be used as a break and also to travel to the starting point for your walk/run route, and perhaps meet up with other participants doing the Half Worboys.
The scoring of the event will be different this year but similarly to last year it will be done through Strava.
Scoring of the event
This year we will be rewarding participants for choosing routes which involve elevation gain in both the cycle and walk/run. The aim of this is to ‘level the playing field’, especially with the cycling, and also to make the event more like the real challenge on Arran (Goat Fell is 874m). We are also multiplying the walk/run effort by 3 so that it is more in line with the cycle distance, meaning that both elements carry similar weight.
In the cycle, there will be a bonus on the total distance achieved in 3.5 hours of 1% for every 10 metres of elevation gained on Strava.
In the walk/run (for both the Full and Half), there will be a bonus on the total distance achieved in 3.5 hours of 1% for every 5 metres of elevation gained on Strava.
In order to highlight the advantage of choosing a route with more elevation,
below are some potential results:

Rob Worboys worked at Cushman & Wakefield’s Edinburgh office and loved organising
and participating in challenges. At the tender age of 27 however, Rob sadly passed away.
In memory of Rob and his love for challenges, we have for the past five years hosted
the Rob Worboys Challenge, where colleagues, clients, friends and families
compete to cycle around the Isle of Arran and climb of Goat Fell
(virtual event in 2020).

“Young people from disadvantaged backgrounds do worse at school compared to their better-off peers, are less likely to access university and struggle to find and keep jobs. But this is not inevitable. The charities selected by Cushman & Wakefield are all working to narrow the gaps in education or employment for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. They are committed to establishing and improving their impact, to demonstrate the difference they’re making. And they all show that, with the right support, every young person can succeed, regardless of background, in school, in work, in life.”

Half Worboys Virtual Arran Challenge 2020
Rob Worboys Virtual Arran Challenge 2020
“The Rob Worboys Challenge is important to all of us at Cushman & Wakefield and helps us remember our former colleague, Rob, so we are delighted that we are running the 2021 event on a virtual basis for the second year in a row. This follows four years of the event taking place on the Island of Arran.
One of our main goals last year was to promote the Rob Worboys Challenge to our clients and colleagues based outside Scotland. With over 400 taking part in 2020, we have high hopes for another strong turn out this year and for raising significant sums for our educationally focussed Charities.
Arran, which is located off the West Coast of Scotland, is a very special place and we hope this year’s event will again give everyone a taste of what it would be like to return to the island in 2022 and take on the Challenge in a single day.
Good luck all!”

The Half Worboys challenge is now a team event. You can either participate in a competitive or social team, walking/running as far
(with as much elevation) as possible in 3.5 hours.
Participants will use Strava to record a 3.5 hour walk/run in the afternoon (e.g. 2pm – 5.30pm). Similar to the Full Worboys, we would encourage participants to compete in the afternoon and on similar routes to fellow competitors but participants must complete both 3.5 hour parts before 7pm on 10th June.
