Asolo Prosecco Superiore DOCG:
The small but mighty denomination producing high-quality Prosecco that showcases the sophistication of the Veneto.
Asolo (pronounced with a stress on the ‘A’) is an idyllic hilltop village an hour’s drive from Venice that gives its name to Asolo Prosecco Superiore DOCG. The smallest by far of the three major Prosecco denominations and coming from a compact area with less than 3,000ha under vine, Asolo DOCG has a distinct terroir identity. Soils are predominantly white calcareous marl with pockets of red ferrous clay.
The mild Mediterranean climate benefits from the presence of mountains to the north, which block cold air currents, while the proximity of the Adriatic helps to regulate temperatures through the growing season. Day-to-night temperature variations during the run-up to the harvest develop the aromas of the Glera grape while maintaining dynamic freshness. It is a climate that favours not only viticulture but also the production of Italy’s most northerly olive oil.
The wines display the structure typical of calcareous soils, which makes them particularly suited to Brut and Extra Brut categories. The trend among Asolo winemakers is towards drier styles, as one leading producer explains:

A spotlight on the 2025 vintage
Michele Noal, president of the Consorzio Vini Asolo Montello, reports the widely held view that the 2025 vintage ranks as one of the best of the last 20 years. This was duly reflected at a tasting of recent releases at the Consorzio in June.
The weather worked in the vintage’s favour in 2025. The winter was mild, and the spring had abundant rain, which brought budding and flowering forward. There were temperature peaks in summer, but also well-distributed rain and ideal harvest conditions. All in all, it was the vintage every producer would wish for, with, as Noal succinctly puts it, ‘quantity and quality.’
In the glass, this emerges in wines with intense white fruit, citrus and floral aromas and a distinct mineral tang. The wines show length and depth and – an aspect of Prosecco that is often overlooked – the prospect of evolution over time.

The nose is a delightful weave of ripe apple, citrus and lime blossom, with a light flinty note in the background. There is bright, fresh concentration of fruit on the palate, a super-fine perlage, agile progression and a dry, beautifully poised finish. Captivating, refined. Alc 11.5%

Delicate, spring hedgerow aromas with touches of bitter herbs and citrus peel. On the palate, the fruit flavours are beautifully integrated with an elegantly refined perlage and a juicy vein of acidity that gives the wine a long fresh finish. Masterful interpretation of the style. Alc 11%

Bright straw shade, a very fine white mousse and an intense, saline-mineral nose with bitter lemons and a classic hint of dark blossoms. Firm structure and depth of flavour on the palate, creamy texture and a long, tangy, savoury, dry finish. Benchmark for the category. Alc 11%
Case Paolin, Col Fondo Brut Nature Sui Lieviti 2025
Immediately fresh and expressive on the nose with salted lemon and a hint of fresh baked biscuit. The palate is bone dry with tangy acidity and finishes long with a return of citrus fruit and an intriguing note of white pepper. Exemplary. Alc 11.5%
Vigna Rampante, Zero Extra Brut 2025
Wet stone intensity edged with delicate white blossoms and a touch of green apple on the nose. Solid structure, great depth of flavour and super-refined perlage on the palate which finishes long and bone dry without harshness. A perfectly balanced pas dosé. Alc 11.5%
Vigna Rampante, Bacca Nuda Brut 2025
Savoury aromatic herbs, slightly under-ripe apricot and a marked flintiness on the nose. Firm and dry with layers of flavour under the creamy volume of the middle palate and a finish which is broad and long, at the low end of the sugar scale for the category. Alc 11.5%
Loredan Gasparini, Cuvée Indigena Extra Brut 2024
Extraordinarily complex nose, with fresh thyme, dried flowers, and sweet almonds framed by delicate saline notes. Slender on the palate, with the refined mouth-feel of a miniscule perlage, but great intensity of flavour. A unique interpretation of the terroir, obtained directly from spontaneous primary fermentation. Alc 11%

Bags of character on the nose, with green apple, lemon rind and wet straw at the front and a hint of savoury mineral. Ripe fruit flavours fill out the mid-palate, which is nicely counterposed by the fresh acidity of the finish. Scrumptious. Alc 11.5%
La Tordera A3 Extra Brut 2025
Delicate, mature lees character, with wet stone and subtle but very precise apricot and citrus fruit on the nose. Firmly structured, linear palate which is dry and tangy with just the right pressure of the perlage and a long, elegant finish. Classic Asolo. Alc 11%

Slightly understated but very natural thyme, apple peel and citron on the nose, with an earthy wet stone nuance at the back. Intense entry with great depth of fruit flavour, very delicate perlage and a long, off-dry finish supported by fresh acidity. Highly accomplished. Alc 11%

On the nose, intense, very specific varietal aromas of lime blossom and wisteria and a distinct saline nuance. The palate kicks in with bright, fresh intensity and follows through with a discrete perlage to a dry, concentrated finish of engaging aromatic complexity. Refined. Alc 11%

Attractive pear and melon on the nose, with a whiff of sea breezes in the background. The palate is soft and round with finely judged fruit and balanced acidity, just the right intensity of the bubbles, and a fresh fruit finish. Classic aperitif. Alc 11%

A very fresh and attractive nose of lemon peel, acacia and almond blossom leads into a crisp linear palate with bright citrus flavours, a lively perlage and a long juicy-dry finish. Exemplary winemaking from this long-established house. Alc 11.5%

Precise nose of aromatic herbs, with a touch of grated lemon and a note of mature lees. Firm and savoury-minerally on the palate, with the depth and structure of the long refermentation and a finish with length and intensity. A wine of substance. Alc 12%

Open and outgoing on the nose, with notes of positive evolution alongside the ripe yellow fruit. The palate has the roundness of long lees ageing, and a very delicate bubble. Lowish acidity, but a distinctive mineral presence gives firmness and length. Appetising. Alc 11.5%

Floral-herby nose, with precise notes of lemon curd and a touch of bread crust in the background. The palate has a soft, airy texture, a lovely fluid progression with a dry, mineral undercurrent and a long finish. Superior any time drinking. Alc 11.5%
Botter, Brilla! Brut 2025
Very fine white mousse. The grated lemon and apple peel on the nose carry through onto the palate which is light and zippy with an attractive prickly perlage and a mid-length juicy finish. Super-precise, ticks all the boxes. Alc 11%
Giusti Wine, Oro Extra Brut NV
Paper-white shade, voluminous mousse and very fine, persistent perlage. Very restrained on the nose, fresh and precise, but a little neutral. The palate is characterized by the intense pressure of the very well integrated CO2. A very tactile wine. Alc 11.5%
Tenuta Amadio, Extra Dry 2025
Open, and immediate on the nose, with candied citrus peel, bitter almonds and pot pourri and a delicate saline around the edges. The palate has a vivacious perlage and underneath the texture, concentrated fruit and a soft, off-dry aromatic finish. Classic traditional Extra Dry. Alc 11.5%
All wines were tasted non-blind and were supplied to Decanter to feature in paid-for content. Tasting was carried out at the Consorzio Vini Asolo Montello in June 2026.
