Bibbi Year 2059

life, and sometimes just a single spritz can induce soul-stirring nostalgia. But in this new era of perfumery, it doesn’t always have to be about looking backwards—scent can be a great marker of the here and now; the feelings you’re experiencing, the memories you’re looking forward to making, and the milestones within arm’s reach. Some fragrances, though, can even encapsulate a whiff of the future—and that’s what Bibbi bottled with their new release, Year 2059.
The perfume house was founded back in 2023 in Paris by Swedish-born creative, Stina ‘Bibbi’ Seger, who wanted to create truly sensorial, experiential scents that blurred the boundaries between the body, mind and subconscious. This has been a lifelong pursuit: in her 20s, she spent three years on a remote island, delving deep into her meditation practice and exploring how to channel the olfactory realm. “Perfume works on the subconscious: it speaks directly to memory and emotion,” Stina says, explaining that the seed of all 14 of Bibbi’s perfumes began with intense, dream-like meditations. “By building accords that feel both familiar and futuristic, a fragrance can alter how people see the world, opening them up to empathy, clarity, and new ways of thinking.”

“By building accords that feel both familiar and futuristic, a fragrance can alter how people see the world, opening them up to empathy, clarity, and new ways of thinking”
Indeed, there is something transcendent about the fragrance, which opens on notes of powdery raspberry and luminous magnolia, which are punchy and sense-clearing in their crispness. Suppose you were to imagine yourself falling into piles of clean, freshly laundered cotton within a meadow filled with spurting wildflowers… That’s how Year 2059 feels on initial spritz. But it opens up the more you engage with it. Beyond those luminous berry and floral accords comes a beaming ray of purity.
Creating such a boldly ambitious perfume is no mean feat, so Stina had to unpack her own vision of the future, which she defined as “clean yet emotional”. As such, while most perfumes dry down to a more grounded base, Year 2059 carries on its upward journey to the stars, with notes of cotton accord and waterlily to represent purity and renewal, and then amroxan and silk musk, which here are smooth, diffusive and otherworldly. It feels gently cocooning on the skin; warm and encouraging, but with a hint of complexity you can never quite decipher.

“By building accords that feel both familiar and futuristic, a fragrance can alter how people see the world, opening them up to empathy, clarity, and new ways of thinking”
While many of Bibbi’s scents evoke liminal spaces, so swimming pools and “the other room”, or reimaginings of familiar, comforting notes like santal, vanilla and rose, Year 2059 opens the door to our respective, desired futures. It’s joyously optimistic, despite being crafted in a time of uncertainty, the perfumer notes: “2059 was imagined as a distant future where scent becomes more than perfume, it becomes transformation. I wanted to create a fragrance that doesn’t just decorate the skin but changes the mind, inspiring equality, love, and unity through a scent experience.”

The Notes

“Clean” scents have a reputation for being simple, but this is not the case for Year 2059—it doesn’t become one with the skin immediately, and it’s not necessarily an everyday scent; it’s what I want to wear when I want to put my best foot forward. It’s an invitation to embody the three words Stina says best describe it: “transformative, compassionate and addictive”. As she concludes: “It’s not for someone who fears change or holds on to the past. This scent belongs to dreamers, innovators, and believers in a better tomorrow.”
