Iconic wines that take you
to the stars

The Bottega family boasts nearly four hundred years of heritage in the hillside vineyards of Veneto.
Four centuries is a long way to look back, but it gives an important view of the drive and determination that defines the modern-day Bottega wine company. Andrea Bottega was originally a tenant farmer for local nobility, but broke free in 1635 and began cultivating the family’s own vineyards in the hills of Refrontolo. Some 400 years later, these same hills would become part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Prosecco Hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene.
The Bottega family have never lost their connection to this special land, and have continued to explore and innovate over the centuries. While distillation and exquisite grappa dominated their story in the 1970s and ‘80s, the family built their first winery in 1992, and so Bottega's Prosecco journey began.
Bottega’s award-winning Proseccos cover a range of styles that are a testament to both innovation and quality. From charming spumante demi-sec and flavourful rosés to the altogether more sophisticated DOCG Rive di Col San Martino, a more comprehensive selection is hard to imagine.
The Premium Vintage Collection
Motivated by the pursuit of elegance, a decade ago Bottega set to work on its Premium Vintage Collection. The resulting wines represent an exciting step up for Prosecco and sparkling wine connoisseurs. Consisting solely of Extra Brut wines, the collection demonstrates the heights that quality Prosecco can reach.

Meticulous attention to detail
Grapes are sourced from carefully selected vineyards, at altitudes of over 400 metres. Some of the vines are over 100 years old, and the sites so steep that they can only be harvested by hand. ‘Our idea of cultivating vineyards of this quality began ten years ago’, explains Bottega’s CEO, Sandro Bottega; ‘We cultivate the vineyards organically, which is good for both the environment and biodiversity. It also has a positive effect on the longevity of the wines.’
The vineyards are sown primarily with vetch, clover and mustard, which give the soils a natural supply of nutrients, as well as supporting a vibrant ecosystem.
Once harvested, the grapes are tended just as carefully in the winery, every step aimed at maximising the fruit’s natural qualities. The wines are fermented in horizontal autoclaves which, as Sandro Bottega points out, ‘allow for greater contact between the wine must and the yeasts. The movement of the wine inside simulates remouage, but in a way that consumes less energy.’
Where patience is rewarded
Particularly noteworthy is the extended fermentation time of wines in the Premium Vintage Collection, which in some cases is over twelve months. This brings considerably more complexity and ageing potential to the wines.
Fully committed to sustainability, Bottega lists an impressive programme that includes organic viticulture, water recirculation and buying electricity from only certified renewable sources. The company has also brought 300,000 bees – across five hives – into the Prosecco hills to support the area’s biodiversity.
Sandro Bottega is particularly proud that the bold, golden packaging that envelops
the Premium Vintage wines is also sustainable: ‘the paints are always water-based
and therefore solvent-free… the energy used for production comes for our photovoltaic system.’
The Premium Vintage Collection currently consists of five outstanding wines, each an individual articulation of the thrill of fine Prosecco drinking.
Bottega Gold Cru
Beautifully poised and harmonious wine with hints of white spring flowers, Granny Smith apple and green pear.
Bottega Gold
Extra Brut
Strikingly refined Prosecco with notes of stone fruit, wisteria and acacia.
Bottega Stardust Gold
Aged for a minimum of 12 months, this wine stands out not only because of the 5,000 crystals that cover its bottle, but also for the ‘elegant finesse of its perlage, the complexity of its aromas, including notes of bread crust blending with the typical fruitiness of Prosecco and hints of dried fruit. An overall delicacy distinguishes it.’
Today, Bottega is mindful of the family’s winemaking heritage. In the 1920s, for example, Domenico Bottega was a passionate oenologist with a keen nose for the finest grapes. ‘He actually drank Prosecco that had undergone a maceration process, so he gave us a vision that accompanied us throughout our journey, and that we have been able to develop and enhance’, Sandro Bottega observes; ‘The taste has evolved a great deal in 100 years, but what we can reference is the level of sapidity, which we imagine would be very similar.’
With the Premium Vintage Collection, Bottega delivers iconic Prosecco for the 21st-century palate – wines of which previous generations would undoubtedly be proud.
