How Anna Barnett Packs for
a Family Day Exploring Nature
From picnic hampers and coffee flasks to scooters, stick collections and a double buggy, chef, author and podcaster Anna Barnett reveals the carefully chosen essentials she always packs for a family day immersed in nature
For Anna, spending time outdoors with her twin boys is about slowing down and embracing whatever the day brings. Rather than planning a picture-perfect picnic, she prefers family adventures that revolve around woodland walks, spotting wildlife and discovering nature. With two lively children in tow, thoughtful packing is what allows the whole family to really enjoy the day.
The Land Rover Discovery’s spacious boot makes that possible, comfortably accommodating everything from practical essentials - picnic hampers, the double buggy, blankets and flasks - to little
extras, such as the boys’ scooters, their stick collection and
fireman backpacks.
‘The Land Rover Discovery boot has room for all the essentials and a few extras that make a family day outdoors much more fun.’

From practical essentials to thoughtful comforts, Anna's boot reflects a family that loves spending time immersed in nature. With everything neatly packed into the Land Rover Discovery, there's room for every practical essential, along with the little extras that make family outings memorable. It's proof that the best family adventures don't require elaborate plans - just the right kit, a sense of curiosity and somewhere beautiful to explore.

At the heart of Anna's setup is the family's double buggy. While she jokes that it's ‘rather enormous’, it's a non-negotiable for longer countryside walks, helping little legs keep up with the day's adventures.
The boys' scooters and helmets are packed alongside it, giving them the freedom to race ahead to explore woodland paths and open spaces. They're one of those simple additions that make every outing feel a little more adventurous.
Food is another priority. As a chef, cookbook author, and podcast host of The Filling, Anna spends much of her time creating mouth-watering menus - so she never heads out without a well-stocked picnic hamper, filled with snacks for the whole family. She also always packs a flask.
‘I always bring a flask – tea, coffee, hot chocolate, smoothies – whatever the weather calls for. It's just one of those things that keeps us all going a bit longer.’
A sturdy picnic blanket completes the setup, transforming any patch of grass into a comfortable place to stop, eat and take in the surroundings.

For Anna, encouraging curiosity is just as important as packing the practical essentials. Nature books, colouring pencils and activity packs help turn every walk into a creative endeavour, as the boys spot birds and wildlife along the way.
And then there’s the ever-growing collection of sticks that somehow always makes the journey home too. Paper planes earn their place in the car boot, too, providing another simple way to keep the boys entertained.
Wellies are packed as a matter of course. British weather is unpredictable, and muddy paths and damp grass are all part of the fun. And, despite the hot, dry weather we’ve had this summer, Anna knows the boys will always find a mud patch or stream to paddle in.
