Furniture Village’s latest collection
Her standout pieces from the Á La Mode collection include the Boutique Pandora sofa, which Lauren says is ‘like a little sanctuary, perfect for those days when all you want is to curl up with a good book. It effortlessly fits into several styles, making it a versatile statement in your home.’ Other pieces that have caught Lauren’s eye include the Calvin Klein Sculptural rug – (‘It's super adaptable – fitting into modern or traditional spaces,’) – and the Kos dining table with its sleek, architectural design; ‘The extendable feature is a brilliant touch, offering versatility from cosy dinners for two to larger family gatherings and I love the white marble, it's a material we are using a lot currently,’ enthuses Lauren.
Lauren Gilberthorpe. ‘Furniture Village stands out as a really useful destination for anyone starting on the journey of home design or looking to refresh a particular space. With a surprising array of brands all located under one roof, it's such a great place to start and to see so many different styles and types of furniture. We use Furniture Village regularly to help clients to browse mattresses for example – it's really helpful for clients to be able to view and test lots of different brands at the same time,’ says Lauren.
A
LAUREN
Situated in the Cotswolds, her eponymous design studio is known for creating elegant, retreat-like spaces that reflect the lifestyles of its clients. Which is why Lauren was so drawn to Furniture Village’s Á La Mode look from its Spring Summer 2024 collections; ‘It has this laid-back but luxurious feel that I really like. It's all about refined comfort without going overboard which fits in well with the interior schemes that we design.
The combination of muted colours with tactile materials like linens and velvets result in a look that feels contemporary but more importantly, comfortable, which is always at the top of my list when designing,’ Lauren notes.
So, how to go about bringing the look into your own home? ‘Crafting an elegant space at home is like creating a piece of art,’ Lauren explains. ‘Start with a base of diverse textures and layer in lighting that sets the mood.’ But what really brings a space to life, she says, is that all-important personal touch. ‘Whether it’s a piece of art you love, a family heirloom with a story, or just something that makes you smile every time you see it, that’s what turns a house into a home.’ She recommends mixing different elements in the Á La Mode look with other pieces in the wider Furniture Village range to create a truly distinctive space.
LOVES
The Lilah lamp table - it's one of those pieces that would naturally elevate a room's aesthetic. I love how it blends simplicity with elegance. The Alexander and James Boutique Jade chair – you could create a cosy nook in a snug or add a touch of warmth and sophistication to your home office. Lastly, we love the Arran table lamp! The shape, and its contrast between the black organic base and the white linen shade, would be a perfect addition to flank either side of the Thiago bed frame.'
The Á La Mode look’s core palette revolves around subtle neutrals, black and greys, but monochrome and minimalist can be rich and luxurious, says Lauren, when styled in the right way. ‘It's all about embracing contrast and variety within the simplicity. Textural interplay is always essential – imagine pairing smooth, sleek surfaces with rougher, tactile elements or juxtaposing matt finishes against glossy accents. Subtle variations in shades, even within a monochromatic palette, can add layers of visual interest. Playing with different shapes and sizes also adds an element of surprise and keeps the eye moving. Furniture Village offers such a vast array of styles which make it super simple and fun to find those contrasting pieces that will keep your space feeling dynamic and exciting.’
Versatile and easy to personalise, updating the Á La Mode style when you feel like a refresh couldn’t be more simple, according to Lauren; ‘Start by weaving in some seasonal hues and textures while keeping that classic Á La Mode base as your anchor. Think about adding art and accessories that capture the essence of the season. For instance, lighter, brighter elements for spring and summer, and richer, warmer accents for autumn and winter,’ she suggests. ‘You’re not just updating your space; you’re keeping it in sync with your moods and the seasons. Furniture Village allows you to select items that not only fit the Á La Mode look, but also bring that necessary hint of character and individuality to make your space unique.’
