This aesthetic saw pared-back compositions, sculptural shapes, and plenty of steel. Here, it’s given a 2025 glow-up with fancy frills and decorative flourishes — let’s party like 1999.
90s Minimalism
Reinvented

90s minimalism was all about simplicity and clean lines. To make it right for today you’ve got to soften the hard materials with texture and soft colour accents. So we’ve introduced oats, camels, taupes, variations on a theme, which all have a creaminess to them. Be considered in your choices and keep your compositions pared back - pieces need to breathe. Allow a silver Buchanan Studio ottoman the right amount of air and it will catch the light, reflecting and refracting it around your home. It will be, quite simply, magical. Though, ultimately, this aesthetic is all about layering on the right amount of pretty detail. Scalloped edges on a lampshade, a frill skirt on a sofa – a prettiness that picks up on the whimsical side of the 90s, all those daisy hair clips and tea dresses. As we all knew at the time, you’ve got to weave in fun touches - that’s how the look comes together. The twist that makes you ready for a party.

hrome is having a comeback, and if you don’t believe us then look to the silvers of Salone del Mobile in Milan. It was everywhere in April, its steely shine glinting from the collections of brands like Minotti, Molteni&C and B&B Italia. It spoke of a time before the warmth of copper, an industrial edge that preceded the glow of gold. It spoke, of course, of the 90s, a decade whose Helmut Lang-inspired minimalism is all over the catwalk right now too. But to be right for today’s
interiors it had to be layered up - here we’re playing with proportions, shapes and texture to create spaces that are inviting but clean. And being party season we wanted to find a way to make it right for entertaining, to use those glints and glimmers like you might imagine a disco ball.
