here are few fragrance houses that know how to tap into the human psyche quite like Diptyque. It is a brand that has mastered the art of olfactory storytelling better than anybody else, with every Diptyque perfume delivering a heavy hit of mental escapism that takes you to a place or moment in time that feels
emotionally familiar. Long gone are the days of perfumes fitting into simple woody, floral and citrus categories—Diptyque fragrances know how to make you feel. But having carved out its specialism as a house, there was one particular emotional facet that Diptyque was yet to have a go at. What, after all, engages our senses more powerfully than nature itself?
In a bold move, the brand has launched an entirely new line of fragrances, sitting separately from its core collection, in Les Essences De Diptyque—and it is nothing short of a feat. Comprising five eau de parfums, each crafted by the world’s most celebrated perfumers, the collection champions nature’s raw materials and some of its most evocative treasures. But don’t expect your typical elemental scents here, either—Les Essences De Diptyque captures the sort of poetic, emotional connection that exists between mankind and nature, delivering what is one of the most beautifully transformative collections of fragrances to ever exist. If Mother Nature ever really goes to sleep, Les Essences De Diptyque has bottled her dreams…
Lilyphéa
NOTES
Violet Leaves
Like clean, wet skin just before you cover it in talc
VANILLA
A fresh take on the traditionally creamy note, but just as inviting as ever
Take everything you think you know about salty, marine perfumes and throw it out of the window—Corail Oscuro is both everything and nothing you might expect. It is shimmering with warm sunlight, but shadowed by the deep, dark depth of the ocean. It is crisp like sea salt, but sweet like sherbet. It is dry like aged coral, but brimming with green, juicy, iridescent life. Corail Oscuro is everything that the ocean is—vast, complex and undeniably good for the soul. It is like whiling away a Sunday afternoon picking seashells on the shores of the Hamptons.

Cardamom
A warm, crisp and very subtle spiciness that is brimming with juice
Inspired by an impressionist canvas, it would be remiss not to mention the connections between the light, breezy and carefree nature of Lilyphéa and the beaming serenity of Monet’s Water Lilies. One deep inhale of Lilyphéa transports you to sitting on the edge of a pond in the British countryside, nestled amongst towering wildflowers, and dipping your toes into the crisp, cooling waters. It is green and watery, of course, but there is a powdered softness running throughout that welcomes you home with comforting arms.

Bois Corsé
NOTES
Sandalwood
A soft, creamy woodiness that melts over the skin
Tonka bean
Sweet, sugary and milky, like molten chocolate
Black coffee
Like a freshly poured espresso with a thick, rich crema
On first spray, there is no denying that Bois Corsé is inspired by the rich, dry barks of forest tree trunks—it is deep, dark and grounding. But, true to the dream-like nature of the collection, this fragrance is far from heady or intense. Instead, the woodiness dances over the skin and swirls around your brain like a soft cloud. After a few moments of settling on the skin, the perfume becomes creamy, sweeter and moreish—like being wrapped in a blanket, sipping a rich, frothy coffee out of a flask while perched up high on a tree branch, looking down at the rest of the world.

Mother of pearl forms the basis of inspiration for Lunamaris, and it only takes smelling it once for this to make sense. It is blanketed with bright, cool light, proving a tonic for the soul. But this is far from your typical, sparkling sort of fresh perfume. Lunamaris is dappled in moonlight, while soft, pastelly, warming powders form a blanket of comfort over the skin, making it almost unbelievably wearable. It is a new sort of skin scent that is totally void of any sweet creaminess, rather it has a human spiciness to it that makes it familiarly nostalgic.

Rose Roche
Do not, by any means, be deterred from the mention of rose in the name of this fragrance—a rose perfume it is not. The rose element plays such a minor (but still important) role in the overall aroma of Rose Roche that it is probably undetectable to an untrained nose. On first spritz, Rose Roche is like a gulp of ice-cold, lemon-garnished Coco-Cola—fizzy, sweet and syrupy. But after a little while, it loses all trace of quenching effervescence and becomes a dry, arid landscape where the lemony sweetness intensifies under direct sunlight. And this is where the name begins to make sense, with inspiration for the fragrance coming in the form of vast desertland, housing a crystal formation known as the desert rose.
