Burgundy shades are a fail-safe option. “If you have a warm complexion, I love a burgundy lipstick with brown tones,” says Chanel make- up artist, Anna Payne. “If your skin tone is pale and cool, it can also look striking.” Just add a little blush to soften the look.

While a bold red lip delivers an instant boost of confidence, the hue can be incredibly versatile if you play with it in different ways. For days when a lined red lip doesn’t feel right, diffuse the pigment by tapping it into your lips for some low-key colour instead. Or, for a new-season spin, go for this striking, full ombré look.

Whether you’re heading out to run errands or have an important work meeting lined up, this classic red will never let you down.

Multi-purpose Pink

Opting for pink tones is sure to induce a state of day-long happiness. “This particular shade has the perfect mix of pink and blue tones to brighten pale skin, without looking jarring against it,” says Payne. The best part of going for pink? You can tap the pigment into cheeks for a subtle flush.

While nude lipstick is a daily go-to for many, if you want a more playful look, try adding a deep-coloured liner and diffusing it into the middle. For this look, Payne opted for a cool-toned, ’90s-style nude. “This is one of my favourite lipstick shades. It’s a modern, ’90s-inspired nude that looks great on all skin tones. It’s so wearable,” she says.
