Welcome to the August Entertainment Issue—a new edition from team Marie Claire. Over the past few months, we’ve spent time curating a mix of stories that tackle everything from the death of the rom com (“The Rom-Com Is Having an Identity Crisis”) to the steamy beach reads you should take on your next vacation (“Romance Novelist Bolu Babalola Shares Her Favorite Books for a Second Chance at Love”). We passed Pinkpantheress (the reigning queen of the TikTok audio of the season) the proverbial aux cord and she put together a vibey playlist I’ll be playing on long evening walks throughout my neighborhood.
Ask anyone who knows me and they’ll tell you about my unabashed love for television. And not just “prestige” TV—I’m also a reality TV lover through and through. So it should come as no surprise that I was beyond excited for our interview with Danielle Pistotnik, the creator of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, a not-so-secret obsession of mine.
Alison Brie is this month’s cover star, going toe-to-toe with MC editor Halie LeSavage at Highland Park Bowl (the very same alley she used to frequent as a teen), then discussing her new horror film Together (which earned the project an unofficial title among the cast and crew, “torturing Dave and Alison”). Brie admits that it’s taken five years to build back her confidence post-pandemic and SAG-AFTRA strikes, but the result is a no BS attitude many will find inspiring.
