Spring wardrobes aren’t built in one go; they’re shaped by the pieces we naturally start reaching for as the season approaches. To kickstart the process themselves, four Who What Wear UK editors turned to Marks and Spencer’s spring collection, each choosing one outfit that reflects how they’re dressing right now and what they’ll keep wearing as the season unfolds.
T
here’s a moment every year when getting dressed starts to feel different. Not because the weather has fully changed, but because our instincts have. We want our outfits to feel lighter, so we shed the layers and start thinking about clothes that don’t need constant adjusting throughout the day. For us, spring dressing isn’t about
a sudden reset—it’s about refining what we wear day to day so it feels easier and fresher. It’s something we return to often at Who What Wear, the idea that the best wardrobes are built around pieces that fit into real life; clothes that work smarter by aligning with different plans, adapting to how your days actually look, whilst still feeling current without trying too hard. It’s less about chasing newness and more about choosing items that quietly earn their place.
This is why M&S remains a constant for our editors. The brand’s spring collection this year focuses on strong foundations like well-cut jackets, dresses that move easily between settings and accessories that add interest without overwhelming an outfit. Below, four editors share the looks they’re wearing now, each styled in a way that reflects their personal approach to spring dressing, and showcasing why these pieces already feel like long-term wardrobe fixtures.

For Annie, spring dressing is about pieces she can rely on day after day. At the centre of her look is a suede safari-style jacket that immediately sets the tone. It’s structured but easy to wear, with a trending peplum silhouette. As Annie puts it, she’s leaning into “elevated neutrals, good denim and a throw-on jacket I can rely on into the spring and summer months.”
Worn over a simple white T-shirt and paired with barrel-leg jeans, the look stays relaxed without losing its sense of polish. Classic ballet flats keep things practical for busy days, whilst the periwinkle crochet tote brings a welcome pop of colour—exactly the kind of accessory Annie says she loves for spring. It’s the sort of outfit that moves easily from a workday to drinks with friends, all built around that standout jacket.

The starting point for my look was actually the skirt. The white cotton midi has a relaxed shape that is fluid and breezy, with adjustable ties at each side that bring subtle detail and movement. I know it would instantly make any outfit feel lighter, and it works just as well dressed up as it does for everyday plans.
From there, I kept the rest of the look simple. My style usually leans towards classic pieces, so colour isn’t always something I experiment with, but the pale yellow jacket felt like an easy way to introduce something new without straying too far from what I’m comfortable wearing. Fully buttoned, it sits somewhere between a jacket and a blazer, which makes it particularly useful during this time of year.
Woven flats keep the look grounded, whilst a matching fold-over clutch quietly ties everything together. Compared to Annie’s denim outfit, this one feels slightly sharper, but still easy enough for spring days that you don't want to overthink.

Imani’s look nods to a ’90s spring wardrobe, with clean lines, confident silhouettes and just the right amount of detail. The boucle minidress instantly feels sophisticated, with the soft blue tone keeping it fresh for the season. There’s something about the colour and texture that immediately felt right, she says. “It feels oh-so Cher and Dionne from Clueless,” so embracing the dress was the natural next step. This minidress has a matching jacket with gold buttons that add a subtle point of interest, giving the full co-ord a slightly more elevated finish, whilst butter-yellow block heels keep things practical without losing that preppy feel. What makes the outfit particularly versatile is how easily the pieces can be worn separately or together. Imani mostly styled the dress on its own, too, but it works just as well with the jacket on colder days. Finished with classic black, square sunglasses and a brown suede clutch—where, as she says, she “looked to add depth”—the whole outfit feels ready for anything from a spring garden party to a day in the office.

For Brittany, the standout piece turned out to be the wide-leg trousers. In off-white with a waist that nips in slightly before falling into a fluid silhouette, they have the same ease as a midi skirt but with a more tailored feel. Unexpectedly versatile, they quickly became the foundation for the entire outfit. Brittany describes her style as naturally minimal, but this year she’s focused on building “a hard-working capsule wardrobe that’s equal parts timeless and elevated,” and says pieces like these are exactly what she looks for when creating outfits she can rely on.
Paired with a collarless denim jacket that subtly defines the waist, the look feels relaxed but still put-together. From there, Brittany turns to accessories to bring personality to the outfit. The zebra-print tote immediately caught her eye—she admits she’s “always partial to a bit of animal print”—whilst red Mary Jane flats add a confident pop of colour without pushing the look too far from her pared-back style. As she notes, the jacket is the kind of staple she’d wear often, but she especially likes it styled “with a pair of ultra-wide tailored trousers to balance out the silhouette.”
