very so often in golf, a product comes along that changes the sport forever. Be it the first titanium drivers, the emergence of solid core golf balls or even the debut of the electric trolley. In 2026, it’s the turn of the humble golf shoe to step into the limelight courtesy of Under Armour and its relentless pursuit of better. Its new Drive Pro Clone shoe cleverly solves the most common problems golfers experience with their footwear that robs them of sought after speed and consistency.
Given the ground is a player’s major source of power during the swing, how you connect with it is crucial and too often, ill-fitting or comfort-focused designs compromise performance.
“Traditional golf shoes create gaps, pressure points and lost power because they are built around a single, fixed shape,” said Jake Haley, Senior Manager of Golf Footwear and Apparel at Under Armour. “With the Drive Pro Clone, we set out to eliminate those compromises entirely. Every golfer deserves a shoe that adapts to them, not the other way around, and this design gives athletes a truly personalised fit that stays consistent from the first swing to the last.”

Under Armour’s solution lies predominantly in its proprietary auxetic Clone upper material, which behaves less like static fabric and more like a dynamic surface. By expanding, contracting and shaping itself to the unique geometry of the foot, Clone creates an adaptive fit that remains consistent throughout a full round, regardless of fatigue, terrain or conditions.
But don’t just take Under Armour’s word for it. Dan Parker has headed up Golf Monthly’s footwear testing for five years now, experiencing the highs and lows of everything the category has had to offer in that time. He’s a tough person to please, demanding an on-course experience that balances looks, walking comfort and performance during the swing. His high praise of the Drive Pro Clone is telling.
“There were huge claims around this shoe when it launched but it all became abundantly clear to me as I first tried them on that this new upper material was going to be a game-changer for golf footwear,” Parker exuded.
“I felt no pinching sensation yet I could still feel the strength and support of a performance shoe that was holding my foot in the right place to allow me to swing my best. It felt like a real eureka moment,” he added.
The Drive Pro Clone is making waves at the highest level, too. Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen claimed his maiden DP World Tour win in a pair at the Australian Open in December while they powered Patrick Reed to victory at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic.
