f you walk into any pro shop in the world, you’re almost always greeted with the Titleist Pro V1 family, and that’s because these balls dominate the counts on major professional tours and have been deemed the gold standard when it comes to premium golf balls among amateur golfers for quite some time now. For years, there was a simple choice. Did you want the softer feel and mid-flight of the Pro V1, or the higher launch and slightly more spin of the Pro V1x?

In 2019, Titleist launched the Pro V1x Left Dash (-Pro V1x) at retail, and while maybe not as initially popular among amateurs, Titleist has just released the new 2026 Pro V1x Left Dash to fall in line with the same high-quality performance on offer with the 2025 Pro V1 and Pro V1x.

We break down how to choose which premium Titleist golf ball will suit your game the best ahead of the upcoming season

“We won’t introduce a product just because it’s new,” said Mike Madson, Senior Vice President of Titleist Golf Ball R&D. “It has to be better, and it has to be validated by players.” This perfectly sums up the Titleist ethos around golf balls and the drive to always improve. The Pro V1 and Pro V1x are brilliant ball options, but the new Left Dash just may be what some golfers who struggle with a lower launch and excessive spin could be looking for.
What started years ago as a CPO (Custom Performance Option) for a niche group of tour pros has evolved into a mainline staple in the premium ball lineup for Titleist and after analyzing the performance data and the new tech under the hood, it’s clear that Titleist isn't just releasing a new ball for the sake of it, they are very much filling a specific gap for players chasing speed, height and lower spin.
So, what is the real difference between the balls in the Pro V1 family, and which of these golf balls is likely to suit your game the best?
The headline act for 2026 is undoubtedly the new Pro V1x Left Dash, which hit shelves on the 21st January at $57.99 per dozen. Historically, the Left Dash was a niche secret weapon for golfers who loved the high launch of the standard Pro V1x but needed to take off spin with the driver and long irons to maximize distance.
The 2026 model doubles down on this DNA, all while utilizing a new high-gradient dual core and a thicker high-flex casing layer to make the ball faster. Titleist has also updated the aerodynamics with a spherically tiled 348 tetrahedral dimple design, ensuring a flight that cuts through the wind more efficiently - something the low spinning nature of this ball only adds to.
“When we started testing Left Dash with consumers, it became clear very quickly that a lot of golfers out there are looking for very low spin while maintaining a high flight, and Left Dash fit that need perfectly as a complement to Pro V1 and Pro V1x,” said Frederick Waddell, Titleist’s Director of Golf Ball Product Management.
“We learned from players that the path we went down was not going to be optimal for what they were looking for in the product. So we started to zero in on why they love Left Dash. It’s the speed, the distance, the low spin. We completely shifted gears to focus our efforts there, resulting in a faster, longer Pro V1x Left Dash, with spin optimized for this player.”
On the golf course, the Left Dash offers the firmest feel of the family, providing that audible, solid click that many golfers prefer for feedback. Its performance profile is distinct and is easily identifiable through the extremely low spin on drivers and long irons, all while still retaining short-game spin for drop-and-stop control around the greens.
Titleist continues to provide visual technology on the Left Dash, and the other models in the Pro V1 family should golfers choose, offering AIM Performance (a 105-degree alignment marking) or AIM Enhanced (an extended sidestamp) to help you roll the rock with precision.
In contrast, the standard Pro V1 remains as the pinnacle and comparative point for the entire industry, offering what is often regarded as the most versatile ball in the family. While the Left Dash is ideal for those seeking a towering ball flight, the Pro V1 is designed for those after a penetrating, mid-trajectory flight that flies lower than both the Left Dash and Pro V1x.
If you dislike the firm sensation of the Left Dash, the Pro V1 offers the softest feeling through impact, partnering exceptionally well with a milled putter face. While it offers low driver spin, it offers what the brand calls ‘very high’ spin around the greens, offering slightly more bite on chips and pitches than the Left Dash.
Finally, the Pro V1x is the high-flying model that offers a touch more long-iron spin than the other two models. The Pro V1x and Left Dash are the closest in launch conditions, and both offer a firmer feel, but their spin profiles differentiate them. While the Left Dash is designed to reduce long-game spin, the standard Pro V1x is designed to maintain a touch more spin on long irons and from the tee.
This is crucial for players who struggle to hold greens with a 4 or 5-iron and need that extra stopping power or seek a touch more launch when striking long irons from the fairway. In terms of feel, it sits comfortably in the
middle, softer than the Left Dash but firmer than the Pro V1 - making it the ideal choice for players seeking high launch while receiving plenty of
audible feedback.
Through the Titleist website, there are three distinct fitting tools, each designed to help you identify the best ball for your game, depending on the level of depth and time you have at your disposal.
The Golf Ball Selector Tool, which is an easy-to-use questionnaire, allows you to simply answer a series of questions regarding your current ball flight, spin preferences, and feel requirements. Based on your inputs, the algorithm instantly recommends the Titleist model that best matches your self-described needs.
If you prefer expert human guidance without leaving home, you can opt for the Virtual Consultant. This tool connects you to a Titleist product specialist for a live, one-on-one video chat, where during this session, the expert will interview you about your game and preferences to replicate the in-person fitting experience and guide you to the right selection.
For the most precise, data-driven results, you can use the tool that helps you find a local authorized fitter where you can undergo a more thorough ball-fitting. This process typically involves hitting shots on a launch monitor, using the Titleist 12-swing protocol, allowing a certified fitter to analyze your actual launch conditions and spin rates to definitively prove which ball optimizes your performance.
While the Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x will likely still hold the larger stakes in the brand's premium golf balls sales, the new and improved Pro V1x Left Dash now offers golfers a blend of both balls, and may just be what some players seeking a unique spin and flight profile have been looking for in 2026.
