Nothing quite says ‘cosy’ like the feeling of being cocooned inside a log cabin, protected from the elements, while curled up with a good book. With this year’s cold weather season finally here, we’re embracing the feeling. This year’s winter trend is all about bringing warmth in and making a style statement with new additions to the home in rustic earth tones and new textures.
Fortunately, the experts at M&S have been hard at work creating their latest collection of homewares. From luxury tartan throws and forest green sheepskin cushions to calming fragrances and accents of gold, this is everything you need for the look.
1. Choose rustic woods
Think laid-back Nordic style, softened with gorgeous textures for the ultimate in ski-chalet chic. Begin with a backdrop of rustic woods, which can be achieved through the use of furniture, opting for elegant silhouettes to ensure the scheme will stand the test of time. The Holt bookcase (£399) with its distinctive pattern of shelves, industrial metal legs, and beautiful oak effect finish gives a true rustic feel when filled with neatly stacked logs and a selection of carefully chosen accessories.

2. Use earthy tones
Earthy shades, such as greens, browns, and russet are perfect for bringing this warming hue into your home. But you don’t need to repaint the walls to achieve it - cushions can bring out the flare in whatever room you choose. Take the gorgeous cotton-linen blend Marrakech Collection Sophia Cushion (£35) in rich Pompeiian Red. Inspired by traditional Moroccan patterns, its earthy-toned fabric with statement embroidery, plated edging and tassels will add colour and texture to your space – simply ideal for creating a unique look against a cosy backdrop.
3. Layer different textures
This backdrop can easily be built up with layers of soft furnishings. Mix and match throws of different textures like fleece, faux fur and cotton, in a combination of colors to match your earthy tones. While the bottom layers can really help you to snuggle down in the evenings, make sure your top throw really highlights your style and creates the perfect contrast to other elements in the room. The Faux Fur Long Pile Throw (£59) in light grey or cream, for instance, will provide the perfect soft finish to any bed or sofa.

4. Don’t forget about the floor
Keep your toes toasty by choosing a thick-pile rug, especially important if you need to warm up a hard floor this winter. In terms of pattern and texture, checks and tartans work well, along with more luxurious faux furs and chunky knits. A small sheepskin rug (£35) would be perfectly sized to nestle in at the foot of a bed or next to a coffee table. Available in deep hues of green, charcoal, and natural fibers or lighter colors of rose and cream, whatever style statement you want to make this winter, there’s a color for you.
Whether you’re looking to update your existing scheme or carry out a complete makeover, the fabulous new homeware range from M&S has all you need and at prices that won’t break the bank.
