I’m so excited to introduce our latest Women in Sport issue, featuring Olympians
Laviai Nielsen and Daryll Neita. I’ve met a lot of cover stars in my time but there is something uniquely inspiring about sports women like Nielsen and Neita, whose dedication, resilience and sheer uncompromising drive to win is so beautifully matched by their humility and sense of fun.
Earlier this month, the pair made space in their gruelling Olympic training sessions for our
cover shoot at Lee Valley Athletics Centre. In an exclusive and inspiring interview with Marie Claire’s
Ally Head, they opened up about the highs and lows of competing at the top of their game
on a global stage and what it feels like to be a woman in sport in 2024.
As an avid runner who discovered the transformative power of sport myself decades ago at school, I'm passionate about how vital sport is for women – from the confidence it gives you to take on new challenges
to the headspace and clarity that comes with lacing up your trainers, escaping work stress, busy family responsibilities and our ‘always on’ culture and heading out for some exercise-driven ‘me time’. It’s why elsewhere in the issue, you’ll find plenty to empower and inspire you. We also explore why mothers are still underestimated in sport and why research on how female bodies perform is so woefully lacking. Plus, the key fashion moments from Olympics’ past, and how you can train like an Olympian yourself at home
In short, it’s an uplifting read, packed with fascinating interviews, expert comment plus
great (and most importantly realistic) tips for how to improve your own health and wellbeing.
Enjoy the issue and keep an eye on our social channels over the coming weeks for more.
