Wine and Spirits Education Trust (WSET)
Established in 1969, WSET is an independent, not-for-profit organisation that has become the global leader in drinks education. Recognised by the awarding body Ofqual, WSET has awarded over 1.5 million people with a qualification since its inception, through a network of over 800 Approved Programme Providers (APPs) working in over 70 countries and in 15 languages.
WSET courses are open to both industry professionals and interested enthusiasts who can take them across four levels, from one-day beginner to expert level diploma. WSET’s aim is to empower people through inspiring learning experiences, all over the world.
This year Decanter sponsored three further education opportunities for students in the Americas and Asia-Pacific to gain valuable qualifications and pursue careers in the wine industry.
Below are the details of the three graduates sponsored in the 2025 programme.
Decanter Americas Scholarship
Rebecca Miles-Steiner achieved outstanding marks in the Level 4 Diploma in Wines in the last academic year, studying at the American Wine School. Rebecca is the Fine Wine Data Manager at UOVO Wine, and was inspired by tasting an outstanding Riesling wine whilst living in the Finger Lakes region of New York. She describes her time learning about wine and spirits at WSET as an exciting, never-ending and mind-opening quest. With her new qualification in tow, Rebecca says she feels she is a more knowledgeable, well-rounded and insightful wine professional.
Decanter Americas Prize
The Decanter Americas prize was awarded to Philip McDaniel, a University Administrator at George Mason University, who has worked in Higher Education for 20 years. A visit to Napa Valley in his youth opened his eyes to the complex and diverse nature of wine, and motivated him to pursue further education. Taking Level 3 in Wines in 2025 has left Philip ready to continue with his wine education journey, and he is now offering monthly wine classes whilst he prepares to study for his Level 4 Diploma in Wines
Decanter APAC Prize
Sihun Oh was the Decanter APAC prize winner and she achieved outstanding marks in the Level 3 Award in Wines in the last academic year, studying at the WineVision. Sihun, who works in a Front of House role at Restaurant Allen is currently based in Seoul, Korea.
A Graduation ceremony was held in April at the Guildhall in London, where students were awarded certificates to make their new qualifications official.
