Although the new year technically begins in January, the transition has already begun by the time signs of fall appear. Maybe it's because we spent so many of our formative years in school when autumn's arrival actually did see so much change. Whatever the cause, it has led to either partial or complete wardrobe renovations often taking place around, well, now. The days of summer have dwindled, and it's now time to think long and hard about what we want our style to look like for the chapter ahead. In other words, prepare to do some serious shopping—with plenty of assistance.
Welcome to the Who What Wear 100, our biannual, 100-product shopping guide for the fashion season ahead. This time around, we're focusing on fall 2025, a season full of newness and excitement as well as timeless classics that we'll always recommend you invest (big or small) in. What shoes will stylish women across Paris, Milan, and New York be wearing? Scroll and find out. What are Who What Wear editors putting on for days at the office and packing for trips to Copenhagen and Seoul? Both await. What affordable discoveries were we tempted to gatekeep but, of course, shared instead? I think you know where to find them. All 100 of fall 2025's best items to shop are below just waiting for you to snatch them up.
By ELIZA HUBER & Nikki chwatt
You've never seen the 26-year-old quite like this.
The stars of fall 2025 have finally arrived after months of us in the fashion world waiting patiently post–fall/winter 2025 fashion month all the way back in February and early March. We've had our sights firmly set on specific runway pieces and trends, saving up to finally add them to our autumn wardrobes. Think Prada's distressed-leather pumps and Gucci’s oversize Giglio bag as well as more general items like calf-hair flats, long pendant necklaces, eyelet dresses (meant to be styled on top of trousers and underneath sweaters à la The Row), and fringe suede jackets. These are buys that will instantly notify passersby that you get it and have a finger on the pulse of fashion at all times. It's not only about what you buy, though. How you style your new wardrobe items is just as important. Make lace-trim shorts feel fall ready by styling them with an autumnal topper, like a leather or sporty jacket. Kallmeyer's viral Liquid Twill Eloise Mini Dress can be worn on its own, but it's elevated tenfold with the addition of eye-catching jewelry and sheer tights. If you get stuck, don't fret. With pieces as seasonally relevant as these, there's no shortage of outfit inspiration to go around.

Which pieces are so good they land in the closets of Who What Wear editors? A handful are taking over the wardrobes of our fashion team, from the office to the streets of NYC and L.A. Nearly everyone on the team owns a great tote, and timed perfectly for the takeover of lived-in, Birkin-ified bags, our editors are filling them to the brim with outfit changes for morning workouts and evening events. Top picks from the team include Bottega Veneta's Andiamo bag as well as DeMellier's New York tote. For wallet-friendly finds, brands such as Aritzia, J.Crew, and Staud are winning out. Tennis bracelets and sculptural earrings are also a hit and starting to dominate in the jewelry space. We're seeing the pendulum swing from super-oversize everything to fitted shapes, especially in the pant department—Lafayette 148's cigarette pants and Citizens of Humanity's Zurie jeans take on tapered shapes that are increasingly winning over our editors.
If your 2025 aesthetic goal is to give "Erewhon lifestyle" (you look like you buy all your groceries there, not just the occasional smoothie or hot-bar splurge) but your budget doesn't quite align, this section is for you. We've combed through the overwhelming number of options online to uncover the affordable gems that look far more expensive than they are. Everything featured here comes in under $270 but could easily pass as designer. One standout piece? Uniqlo's $50 red windbreaker. Already a staple in the wardrobes of fashion people in London, it pairs with everything from leggings to silk trousers. Another must-have is Freja's new Jane Bag—a vintage-inspired mini barrel silhouette that's quickly become a cult favorite. Don't be fooled by its compact design. It's roomy enough to hold all of your girl dinner essentials. (Think three lip glosses, two liners, a pocket-sized blush, and your phone.) That's just the beginning. Discover a Proenza Schouler–esque plaid shirt, editor-approved genie pants, and a host of other rich-looking staples.

The start of fall also means the arrival of pieces primed for layering, like outerwear. We've already written about the fall jacket trends—and the outdated ones—to know at length, so now, we're here to share a tight edit of the 10 specific pieces that deserve a place in your coat closet. Most of the items have classic silhouettes, but the modern elements and elevated fabrics are what breathe new life into the designs. Take Tory Burch's roomy double-breasted green coat, for instance. It's a nod to classic menswear tailoring, but the irregular twill coating gives it a modern feel. Nour Hammour, the outerwear designer to know, has the It fur coat of the season, a kind of piece that would make a group chat blow up if someone dropped the link. On the mid-priced end, SourceUnknown's new cinch-waist funnel-neck leather jacket caters to those who like their "coats buttoned to the top."
As fashion editors, staying ahead of the curve is part of the job—we're constantly studying runway trends and previewing products months before they hit the market and the street. With fall here, it only makes sense to peek inside our team's closets to see what pieces everyone has already fallen for and even started wearing. Since we know the value of a well-curated capsule wardrobe, most of the items you'll find here are modern staples, meaning they help build the foundation of our fall style, seamlessly integrate with what we already own, and endure seasons. Think slim-fitting black trousers from beloved brand Kallmeyer, a long-sleeve boatneck top from It-girl favorite Flore Flore, and the classic black COS bowling bag that WWW's senior editors take from the office to fashion shows. That said, our fall wardrobes aren't built on elevated basics alone. As with any season, we're also embracing trendy pieces that feel fresh and current without being fleeting. Tory Burch's peep-toe curve-heel pumps, the Aritzia x Sperry boat shoes, and Verafied's comb-shaped pendant necklace are just a few examples.
One minute, it's September, and the next, the ground is dusted with snow, stores are playing Mariah Carey, and your social calendar is filling up because you find it hard to say "no." As we know, time slips quickly, and the holiday season arrives before we realize it. To get you dressed and ready for any event, we researched everything there is to know about getting dressed for the holiday season. For casual gatherings, Fair Isle sweaters are an elegant way to dress up jeans and trousers, and there are stunning options from brands like Altuzarra, Dôen, and Eaves. Other ways to embrace the festive season include wearing tassel designs made of silk and beads on earrings, adding a pop of color to your black silk minidress with sheer burgundy tights, and making your jacket the outfit. However, don't just opt for any style; Chloé's stunning shearling-trimmed pink quilted coat from the brand's fall/winter 2025 collection is the one to put on top of your minimalist slip dress or maximalist sequin skirt.

Wardrobe workhorses are the unsung heroes of personal style. They're versatile and reliable and can serve as the foundation or anchor of countless outfits. From perfect blue jeans to a white T-shirt, black ankle boots, and a leather shoulder bag, these are the staples that are strong in design, so they can transcend trends and eliminate the "I have nothing to wear" panic. When it comes to silhouettes, jeans that look like they were sourced from a vintage store are the ones with the most staying power, as they feature a lived-in feel and classic wash. Drawstring pants, with their ease and comfort, will be in every fashion person's closet. Sweaters and T-shirts with elevated details, like rolled necklines and high V-necks, are key styles to own. A designer investment piece to know and covet is Khaite's Nevada Boots. These have Western-inspired stitching and a sleek pointed toe. They've been on the market for a few seasons but continue to sell out with each restock. Additionally, The Row's new Alger bag, which proves less is certainly more, is on the brink of becoming a cult classic.
It's hard to know what's actually worth investing in and what's just another passing fad, especially at the start of a new season. When fresh fall collections start to drop, however, it's scarily easy to be influenced to shop, even if what you want is priced on the higher end of your budget. We get it—we're just as susceptible to pretty things as the next person, and we shop for a living. If we do our jobs well this fall, you won't exit the season with regrets about the big purchases you made. Instead, you'll have spent your money in all the right places, which, in 2025, involves elegant outerwear options from Burberry and Carven, a new (but classic) timepiece courtesy of Cartier, Bottega Veneta's latest take on its lauded Andiamo style, and the sweater version of High Sport's viral kick-flare pants. Those are just the highlights. Simply put, the key to low-risk, high-reward designer shopping is to stick with pieces you know you'll wear on repeat—not just once or twice. If there's any question about that, opt for a price-conscious alternative, which can also be found in this guide.
Shoes provide a window into a person's identity, conveying one's lifestyle and sense of style. Regardless of the brand or price, footwear can also show that someone values their appearance and pays attention to fine details. That's all to say, we don't take shoe shopping lightly. Curating a footwear collection involves trial and error, and an understanding of which trends are in and which designers make shoes that won't fall apart is essential. For fall 2025, short block heels with a high vamp and textured footwear such as calf-hair ballet flats, suede clogs, and croc-effect boots and pumps (extra points if they're from rising brand Jude) are among the standout shoe trends. With their richness and depth, they're powerful styling pieces that can transform a look. Classic leather riding boots, pointed-toe kitten-heel mules, and low-profile sneakers are other must-haves, and there are options from almost every designer.
We know, we know. The concept of capsule wardrobes can be scary. Only owning basics—where's the excitement in that? But it is possible if you have the right accessories to make those wardrobe essentials feel different each time you wear them. We like to refer to these add-ons as personality pieces, items that add a bit of you to otherwise simple outfits. A By Malene Birger floofy brooch here, a colorful fringe scarf (perfect for hiding bad hair days and tying around your waist instead of a belt) there. Prada's bug-like oversize sunglasses add a desirable level of "weird" to any look, including a simple jeans-and-tee pairing, and Tory Burch's Pierced shoulder bag in leopard print will have passersby wondering who you are, what you do, and where you shop, even if the rest of your outfit is just an LBD and boots. Red leather gloves, a crochet beanie, and see-through rain boots paired with mismatched and printed socks make everything else you're wearing far more interesting. Just trust us: Adding a personality piece to your fall wardrobe is the ultimate party trick, one you'll want to show off all season long.
We're not sure about all of you, but for us, fall isn't about going out. No, it's a time to stay in wearing cashmere socks, cashmere sweaters, and, of course, cashmere pants as well as French slippers, silk robes, and every other luxurious indoor wardrobe item one can possibly acquire to help us put summer in our rearview mirrors and adopt a cozier mood. We want to feel good, and in fashion, that means turning to comfort-first brands like Lauren Manoogian and Brave Pudding, two IYKYK labels that make it possible to wear soft things all the time—whether you're out and about or hibernating at home—while maintaining a chic and sophisticated appearance. (Yes, that is possible.) For added effect, incorporate muted, neutral tones like oatmeal and ecru into your wardrobe, pairing them with the occasional pop of brighter color, like royal blue or red. The goal is to look as good as you feel and leverage all the silk, wool, suede, and other tactile materials that you can fit into one autumnal outfit.
