In Partnership with
Kate Berry’s New York City apartment bridges the best of design decades past with the help of natural materials, harmonious silhouettes, and AllModern’s latest spring pieces.
Bite-sized dishes displayed in AllModern’s tabletop pieces are peppered on the coffee table— providing a casual surface for
Berry’s guests to gather and graze.
The AllModern sideboard provides ample space for cookbooks and tableware—as well as a pretty
perch for plants.
The living room is accented with pieces that create a cozy atmosphere—the low-slung AllModern daybed and the coffee table give the effect of more overhead space in Berry’s apartment.

Most people think of indoors and outdoors as separate, albeit adjacent worlds. Kate Berry doesn’t differentiate between the two. “I surround myself with a lot of treasures found in nature,” muses Domino’s chief creative officer. “To me, they are the highest form of design and a source of inspiration for the way I live and work.”
The tones and textures of the terracotta pots, climbing plants, and hints of black railing in her lush “garden in the sky”—a.k.a. her Manhattan apartment’s terrace—all make their way inside, too. Berry wanted to ensure her indoor view reflected the one out her wall-to-wall windows, and she looked no further than AllModern to round things out. “Living in NYC, you can only spend part of your time outside,” says Berry. Even in the depths of winter, “the graphic shapes and soft colors of the AllModern pieces really mimic
the outdoors.”
It's all about the
patina of things.
That is what
looks great with
clean lines and silhouettes.
Not everything
needs to match!
Smaller AllModern details are dotted throughout—rattan planters, a sculptural metal table lamp, a wooden black side table—create multiple alcoves for guests to gather and graze. “I embrace a casual way of dining,” she shares. “Sometimes we’re at the table, sometimes around the coffee table for snacks and dessert. To me, less formality
is a more modern approach.”
Melding pieces with a history—like the Colombian wooden pedestal Berry brought back on the plane or the credenza that she inherited from her husband’s grandmother—adds that final, crucial element to the mix: patina.“That is what looks great with clean lines and silhouettes,” she explains. “Not everything needs to match!”
A prolific host, Berry planned much of the apartment with convening in mind. Over in the dining room, a textured sideboard is home to countless cookbooks and tabletop accoutrements (like Berry’s extensive pitcher collection), ready to make an appearance at a moment’s notice. AllModern’s rounded teak and leather chairs a fresh spin on a shapely ‘80s silhouette—anticipate anything from low-key dinner parties to a craft-ernoon with coworkers. “The tones and curves of the chairs play so well with my vintage ’70s travertine table,” she notes. “If you focus on shapes, you can really mix in different design genres.”
In Berry’s open-plan unit, the kitchen, dining area, and living space trickle into each other, requiring every piece to work not just with its direct neighbors, but the ones down the way. Natural materials, a neutral palette, and plenty of plants—of course!—bring it all together. In the living room, a Fiddle Leaf Fig that Berry has had since before her 10-year-old daughter was born hovers over a low-slung cream, cream AllModern sleeper sofa and a solid oak coffee table with chubby, rounded legs, creating a “womblike” ambiance. It is punctuated with woven leather pillows and overlooked by an oversized photo of African flora by Jessica Antola, a vista in and
of itself.
There are few things that ground a space the way canopying plants, earthly shapes, and vibrant foliage does. For Domino’s Kate Berry, bringing in natural elements is more than a design philosophy, it’s a frame for living. “I live with a lot of treasures found in nature,” Berry muses. “To me, they are the highest form of design and a source of inspiration for the way I live and work.”
One glance around her New York City apartment and you’ll see this ethos infused in every corner. Tones from the outdoor terracotta pots and hints of black in the railing all make their way into the home. Berry wanted to ensure her indoor view mimicked her one out the window. “Living in NYC, you can only spend part of your time outside,” says Berry. “The colors in the apartment really flow with the outdoors.”
