Meredith Peck’s bathroom is arguably as famous as she is. Nearly every day, the cofounder and creative director of preteen skin-care brand Oomi checks in with her 750,000-plus Instagram followers (there, she’s known as
@sparkandpepper) from the same serene, subway-tiled space, letting them in on what she’s wearing. “I’ve always liked sharing what I was doing, where I’ve been, what I like wearing,” she says. But Meredith never expected to become an influencer at 50. What started as a quest to find the right light for getting dressed in her family’s sweet San Francisco Edwardian snowballed into an entirely new career, one that combines the many lives she’s lived as a creative director, freelance designer, and jeweler. The 1907 home, which she has shared with her husband, Andy, and almost-tween daughter, Madi, for the past decade, is as inviting and laid-back as Meredith herself.

Back in 2016, after several years in the West SoMa neighborhood, Madi was still an infant and the family was seeking a place to grow into. Meredith had been enamored with the tiny enclave of Cole Valley for some time—its shaded, tree-lined streets and proximity to Golden Gate Park were a draw for many young families. She knew the area well enough that she didn’t think twice about having Andy and his parents tour their future home without her. Meredith, who stayed back at the apartment with their newborn, tuned in via FaceTime.

“I immediately fell in love because in San Francisco, it’s very hard to find places where you go from a kitchen to an outdoor space in one pass, without walking down (or up) stairs,” says Meredith. They couldn’t let it pass them by, even with Meredith yet to have stepped one foot inside. They moved in knowing the house would need a few adjustments to usher its dated layout into a new era; the social areas were compact and the bathrooms oddly shaped. What they didn’t want to do was compromise the incomparable period details, like the wedding cake molding and trim, the glass front door, and the carved stairway balusters.

In the nine years since, they’ve filled each room with modern lighting, warm paint colors, and Meredith’s collection of vintage portraits, which pop up on walls throughout. The eclectic group of faces originated with one of a single woman in gray, who now hangs in the fashion influencer’s family room; from there, her hobby quickly snowballed. It doesn’t matter if they’re a bit torn, only $20, and don’t come with a frame—she’ll take them all. “I like to think that [the portraits are] connected in ways,” says Meredith.

Their backdrop shifts between dramatic darks and creamy whites in the entryway to soothing blues and greens in the kitchen, with bouclé-upholstered furniture, wood chairs padded in sheepskin, and a stately piano lining the path in between. To accommodate for the nights when Meredith and Andy are at the island cooking—usually a Korean stew and rice, always rice—while Madi paints at the breakfast table or reads on the sofa, they opened the space into the adjacent living room. The back patio, home to heated seating for those crisp San Francisco evenings, is where Andy gets creative, particularly with pizza. “You should see the outdoor cooking devices,” Meredith says, laughing. “He makes dough from scratch. He totally loves the process.”

Upstairs are the bedrooms: Madi’s sun-filled aerie and the primary suite, which the couple rehabbed when they first bought the Edwardian. The new walk-in closet is not to be confused with Meredith’s pièce de résistance down the hall, the “cloffice.” When you share your outfits with the world for a living, you need a dedicated space.

Meredith’s style—“a little bit of modern, a little bit of vintage, quirky, with an eclectic mix of color,” she says—translates to her surroundings. She recently ditched her desk and chair (as well as a boatload of old magazines and catalogs) for a more intimate lounge setup. “I didn’t have to ask anyone else what they thought of this love seat, chair, and mirror; everything is what I’ve imagined for the room,” she says. The result is inarguably her, but she’s often got company anyway. “My whole family ends up there before we all go to bed, including my dog,” she shares.

Meredith sees this time—a period marked by a freshly organized dress collection, new wallpaper in the bathroom, and her daughter’s impending teenage years—as a reminder to embrace the present. “My mom used to say, ‘What is your chapter looking like today?’” Meredith remembers. Whatever it is, she’ll be sharing it with the world, and we’ll be hanging on every Reel.
