Welcome to House Party, our first digital issue.

“
For a minute there, we almost forgot our homes were more than just classrooms and makeshift offices. These past few months have been a welcome reminder that they’re also places to have fun—with color, furniture layouts, plants, and, eventually (thankfully), friends and family. I, for one, finally moved into a bigger, sun-filled apartment, after living in a tiny shoebox for the past eight years where any guest over 6 feet tall felt like they were in a cave. Now I can actually entertain people on our terrace and snuggle up with our new Bengal kitten, Charlie, on the 10-foot-long sofa of my dreams. (And I’ve become a full-on cat person.) Domino is evolving, too. Today marks the debut of our first-ever digital issue, which we’re calling House Party.
When the COVID-19 Delta variant emerged midway through putting together these stories, we questioned whether that theme still rang true. In the end, though, this issue embodies so much more than the traditional definition of party. It’s a celebration of the chance to reshape our rooms and routines, not out of necessity but for the simple joy it brings us.
Our co–cover stars, DJ Mia Moretti and Beverly Nguyen, founder of homewares store Beverly’s, are experts at living it up. You’re just as likely to find Moretti spinning records at the chicest parties for Cartier and Dior as you are to see her enthusiastically foraging the perfect branch for our shoot at her Los Angeles house. It’s the same with Nguyen. Between styling fashion shoots and working on her Beverly’s NYC shop at Nordstrom, she made the time to stop by the farmers’ and Vietnamese markets so she could make a three-course dinner for all of us on set at her New York City apartment.
Despite being on opposite coasts, both of these women have the same carefree, hands-on approach to creating feel-good surroundings, and it doesn’t change when everyone heads home for the night. Why not light the candles just for you?
That happens to be Bangkok-based shop owner Sarin Vongkusolkit’s ritual since the pandemic began. “I think it’s sad to hide my tableware away in drawers,” she tells us elsewhere in the issue. “Sometimes I just need to take them out, make a proper setting, and have a coffee on my own.” We also visit Abel Macias at his L.A. home and nearby studio, where he has found he is happiest surrounded by a specific shade of pink. On the opposite end of the color spectrum, designer Jessica Ayromloo’s Venice, California, project is like stepping into a Dr. Seuss book, an effect that’s as much for the clients as it is for their four grandchildren, who stop by often.
If you’re also getting ready for guests, the Style department has all the big scenarios covered, from brunch to the after-party, in our Editors’ Picks pages. For menu inspiration, look no further than our excerpt of Flamingo Estate’s new cookbook, Fridays From the Garden. Although, I’m not going to lie, you may get distracted along the way by the rest
of our incredible story lineup.
We hope this issue and the ones to come are a place for you to pause and immerse yourself in a singular world of people, spaces, and products inspiring us right now. Because that’s how we’ve felt making it. It feels so good to see these stories come to life in ways that could only happen on a digital platform: with videos, interactive features, the ability to add-to-cart instantly. We’ve had a lot of screen time, but we’ve only just begun experimenting. We’re looking forward to pushing the limits on what a digital issue can be even further; we hope you’ll join us on the adventure.
