There’s something about bringing the outdoors inside that instantly makesa space come alive, no matter the season. Beyond fresh blooms and houseplants, a stone-inspired surface creates a striking elemental backdrop for your decor to really shine. This spring, our editors pored over Formica Corporation’s newnature-forward Living ImpressionsTM Collection and unearthed pieces that sparked whole mood boards—each as singular and personal as their individual style. From a chic marbled black design paired with textural accents and edgy metallics to a mossy green composition that goes from earthy to elevated in a snap, these monolith muses prove a hardworking countertop can still look luxe without going over budget. Here are someof our favorites.
Nuanced
Neutrals
Neutral certainly doesn’t have to mean boring—just take this matte, milky-white surface with a hint of quartzite sparkle that sets a whole quiet luxury tone (without breaking the bank). Home editor Lydia Geisel suggests completing the serene scene with organic textures (hemp rugs, cork tile), sculptural accents (oversize wood knobs), and objects pulled straight from nature (crystals, stones) to channel a sunlit atelier or spalike space. “This material mix exudes warmth. I love treating it as a palette cleanser to help carve out calm areas, like a kitchen breakfast nook or bathroom lounge zone.”

Botanical Beauty
Who doesn’t want to feel immersed in nature, especially in the city? This dreamy design, featuring shades of juniper, sage, and mossy yellow-green, is an elegant way to bring the outdoors inside. In her apartment, chief creative officer Kate Berry mixes botanical art prints, woven leather furniture, polished brass hardware, and rattan accents alongside her collection of more than 100 plants—requiring surfaces to be stylish and durable for displaying greenery and serving as potting stations (as well as a makeshift photo studio). “I’d pick tomatoes in the morning, then clean up and use that same counter as a chic spot to lay out an aperitif for friends in the evening.”

Formica 9920 Jatoba Green
There’s a reason streamlined desert landscapes have long inspired creative types, from Georgia O’Keeffe to Donald Judd to Ugo Rondinone: They’re the perfect blank canvas for big vision ideas. Along with rugged materials such as cement tile and chunky knit jute rugs, deputy editor Julie Vadnal knows just what she’d pair with this salt-and-pepper composition (which is modeled after volcanic basalt in the Mojave). “Super-saturated hues have always been my jam. Bright red, minty green, and radiant blue worthy of a California superbloom look sophisticated and fresh next to a speckled countertop.”

Formica 9921 Sahara Noir
Thinking of giving your space a moody makeover? Black is forever chic, especially this sophisticated veined design. According to style editor Julia Stevens, you want to incorporate different surfaces to give the look added dimension, since darker hues absorb light. Layer in glossy onyx hardware, reflective metallic finishes, and edgy geometric shapes for a modern take on Art Deco–meets–’70s glam. “The key is to balance all that polish with some vintage patina to avoid things becoming too cold. Bring in a distressed rug, tarnished mirrored tiles, or pebbled shagreen cabinet pulls for an enveloping, lived-in feel.”
