The all-white helps trick the eye into letting some of that clutter recede into the background while remaining in plain sight—as do storage spots for stashing some of the overflow, like a pair of wood cubbies tucked under a hallway bench; a trio of bookshelves placed around the upstairs open living area; and a generous wall of floor-to-ceiling cupboards in the kitchen.
The furnishings, all of them transplanted from the family’s Chicago apartment, are similarly unfussy and share a focus on personal meaning. “We like to buy what we love and keep it forever,” explains Amanda. Though the Joneses regularly venture outdoors on hiking excursions and trips to nearby hot springs, they just as often gather around the table in the main living space for game nights or on the sectional in front of the TV for viewings of Bluey and Disney movies. “Our house is full of lots of memories, whether it’s our furniture or books or little knickknacks from our travels,” says Amanda. “I’m very sentimental about that stuff.”
